| My Bushmaster AR seems to be missing a small plug in the upper reciever where the elevation spring rests. It is about 1/4 inch round and sits in charging handle slide. I do not see this item in a parts breakdown. If this plug is not installed, the elevation spring will rub against charging handle. Any thoughts on how this part was removed, or where I can purchase another? Thanks |

The elevation spring for the rear sight housing is contained in the bottom of the housing threaded section by a roll pin that is driven threw the upper receiver. Now it you are able to just turn the elevation knob and remove the sight housing from the upper, then the roll pin is missing. If you cannot, with the spring hitting the top of the charging handle, the roll pin was driven threw one of the spring winds, and not below it to hold the spring above the roll pin. Now the fun, You will need to use a punch to drive the cross-receiver roll pin for the rear sight housing to the point that you can push the spring up past the roll pin. It helps to click the rear sight up to about two clicks before max (roll pin still in the rear sight threaded slot. Now either using a slotted tool, or small punch, push the spring up past the roll pin in the channel, and reinstall the roll pin threw with the spring above it. Or, You could just get Bushmaster on the phone and have the drunken monkey that installed the rear sight wrong get over his DT shakes, and install it correctly the second time around. To add, not only do they need to teach someone how to read a torque wrench (loose keys), now they need to buy him a set of glasses too. WTF, did they hire Ray Charles to start building rifles? Roll Pin #10 hold spring #11 up in the housing bottom channel(#9). Also notice the slot in housing (#9) that limits the amount that the housing (#9) can be raised before hitting the installed roll pin(#10). ![]() |
| Dano. it took me all of 10 minites to fix. The main problem was my other ar is an a1 varient. There is no hole, so it threw me off. The spring was shot, but a friend of mine had an extra, so I removed roll pin, installed new spring and roll pin, and she's as good as new. Thanks for feedback, it did help greatly! |
Funny you brought that up, When the wind was still, I could hear the distant monks in spiritual chant leading Tim Horton to the rightness path of becoming one with the rifle. |
