Now, based on looking at pictures in this thread, I see mostly SF RC2s here. Not sure what the other can is with the hole punch all over it.
But damn it, it's about $1200 with the damn tax stamp!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually you see mostly Surefire RC's, not RC2's. The other is KAC NT4.

I shoot my CQBRs fairly often without ear pro when hunting critters and it's not uncomfortable at all (using either an RC or NT4). This is also the one area in which the NT4 genuinely does something better than the RC - the deeper tone makes it very pleasant without ear pro and I've yet to find anyone that doesn't prefer the NT4 on that particular point. Not that the RC isn't comfortable, it's just higher pitch. Of course, if you're wanting one can that's going to last practically forever and also has the option to be rebuilt, the RC (and I assume RC2) wins hands down. Not sure how the RC2 holds up long term, but the RC is an absolute tank.

Basically, you can't really go wrong with an RC as long as you get one for a reasonable price - that's especially true if you shoot a lot and you want a can that will stand up to it. I'd think the same holds true for the RC2, but no direct experience on my part.

Yeah I guess the only IR laser / illuminators that are scar rated are the harden NAV units, LA5’s and mawl’s Iam guessing?

Bummer man. Thats a relatively new unit too.

The minute one of mine craps out, I'll be making the switch to a Mawl as well.
They really are visually stunning compared to a Peq.

I don’t buy into the NAVSEA logo meaning anything is hardened. The Eotechs, LA5’s, WMX’s and SF cans with the NAVSEA logo don’t seem any different than ones without.

I have six suppressors and the 556RC is my favorite.  I like the mounts as well.  I used the KAC for work back in the 2000s but I like my Surefire the best.

It is true, only with the NAVSEA la5d's though.  Other navsea marked units such as wmx/eotech etc are not hardened, they are just marked as such due to being a crane item.  Per the manual of an LA5D the navsea marked ones are the only scar hardened ones.  I have seen the innerds of a real navsea unit, the bottom half has a cast endoskeleton.

What is the difference in endcaps for the MAWL?  They offer 2 versions (EC1 and EC2) but I don’t see the difference.

EC1 requires a tool to remove/replace the battery and if not torqued back to the same tightness could cause zerio shift (key word could). The EC2 is a tool less change and will not effect zero due to design.  Get the EC2

EC1

EC2

Build list:

Upper -
*11.5” Remington Socom barrel cut to 10.3” w/ .070 gas port (version with barre markings under handguards)
SureFire Socom 4 prong (got an amazing deal on it or I wouldn’t have bought it)
*Colt keyhole C stamped upper
*LBE gas tube
*PRI Gas Buster charging handle
*Microbest Chrome BCG
*KAC RAS rail system
*CQD rail sling mount
*SureFire 600df (going to get something else for it since this came off another one of my rifles)
*GripPod steel reinforced(have a KAC broom handle on the way for it)
*Colt carry handle that I cut down
*Eotech EXPS2-0

Lower -
*Centurion Arms CM4 stripped lower
*SOLGW LPK
*SOLGW receiver extension
*SOLGW H2 buffer
*BCM buffer spring (had a spare)
*SBA3 brace
*CQD sling mount end plate

Also have a Vickers NSN sling for it

Over 26" OAL (10.3 barreled AR just squeaks past this length), a VFG on a "pistol" makes it a "firearm".

I can't remember what mine measured out to, it's been several years since I did it, but I want to say it was something like 3/8-1/2" over the requirement.

I believe the official warranty is dependent on where you purchased the optic, some retailers have warranties for 3 years from date of purchase, some for 1 year. As far as repairs go I've dealt with this on numerous occasions especially with multiple SU-230 military variants I've had in my possession over the years. Raytheon/Elcan do not repair optics at all, commercial or military. The only repair I'm aware they will actually do is upgrading or replacing the illumination module and that is actually contracted out to an Armament Technology subcontractor Safeware. From what I was told these units are not meant to be reopened to ever be reworked on, so those under warranty, commercial or military, I believe are just replaced and the old units trashed. If someone wants to correct me, by all means please do, but this was the word directly from Raytheon Elcan when I wanted to see if they could replace an ocular lens on one of my units a few years back.

I was just going off what I found doing a Yahoo search for "Elcan warranty".

Almost everyone that posted had nothing but great stuff to say about warranty service/replacement from Raytheon/Armament Tech. It basically sounded like a life time warranty from the people that have had to deal with them and some of the time frames they posted.

Having a brain fart...I thought I remembered reading that the Elcan on the Mk18s used the 762 reticle/markings? Pretty sure I'm going to snag one of those from DVOR, but want to make sure I grab the right one.
