I have an M&P15 complete lower. Being new to building I assume that if the upper is same caliber I should have no problem mating upper to lower.
I am looking at one of these three Black Tan Natural Is there any maintenance issue with the natural barrel over the black? It's $100 cheaper so there has to be a reason. Maybe it's just production costs. Also I would like to upgrade the charging handle. Is the Gunfighter Large too big? Should I go with a Medium? I will need something as it will be hard to access a standard handle once the scope is in place |

The black ones are IonBond, which is a physical vapor deposition coating like titanium nitride, etc.
It's very tough, and has a nice satin black luster, and adds a great deal of corrosion resistance to surfaces. However, the process to apply it doesn't get into small holes very well, like the bore and chamber, and if it did, it adds thickness to the parts. Bad juju in a barrel. It is, IMO, worth the extra cost if you don't want natural stainless showing, because it is much tougher than even something like CeraKote. |

The colors they are showing are in reference to the PRI handguard. one in black one in tan and one in natural carbon fiber.
The black and the tan ones you have linked to come with an IonBond barrel which is a hard coating that essentially just keeps your barrel from being scratched up, no functional difference other than the corrosion resistance as noted above. The one with a natural one has a barrel without the IonBond coating, thus the lower price. |
