just wanted to share some cool pics I found on the net

some Model 01 rifles (7 as far as I know) have been imported here in Italy and converted to semiauto only for commercial sale.
[obama voice] yes we can do this things [/obama voice]
according to the importer's website these rifles were sent to southeast asia for evaluation in the late 50s.

the importer added a new s/n (NJA0276 on the upper), and other markings under the rear sight and the mag well.
I dont know exactly how they did the conversion on the FCG... from the outside seems like they did a clean job: only the sear pin has beed modified.
The rear of the BCG has been cut like a AR15 BCG.

ETA: just noticed the first pic shows a newer CH...maybe a replacement

I guess they same work done to those old Colt 613 from Malaysia imported a few years ago minus the ugly rollpin near the selector

Colt 613 pics (not mine)

The stock in pics 5 and 6 show the earliest sling swivel that rotated 360 degrees. Nice.

Thanks for sharing.

Anyone else think the rack number on the grip is cool?

I've seen them on every surface of a stock, on handguard, on upper receiver, but not on a grip before.

Does anyone know what the markings are just forward of the charging handle on the 7th picture?  I tried enhancing the picture using my el-cheapo photo editing software but still could not read it.

And, what is on the left side of the mag well on the 10th picture.

Are these normal for 601s or were these applied after the rifle left the factory?

upper and lower (together) are considered the firearm...I dont know why they put the new SN on the upper but it doesnt really matter since we cant sell just the upper or just the lower...nor we can swap uppers....the firearms must remain unaltered

How much would a 601 cost in Euros?

that 601 is for sale now at 4000 Euro...
while the average cost of a standard ARs is 2500 Euro

I paid my latest Pony 2200 euro in 2008 but the listed price was 2500...I see shops selling HK MR223 for 2900,  Bushy for 2100, Norincos for 950

Wow, that's just under half what you'd pay here for an actual full auto 601, but too much to buy one to have for just semi-auto.
I built my semi-auto 601 clone with genuine 601 parts except the lower for about 1800 Euros.
The furniture alone would be worth 1000 Euros here if you could get it here.
Standard ARs here run about 650 Euros more or less.
I have some unspent Euros, but not that much.

Thanks for posting these.
Question: the anodizing or lack thereof is curious to me.  I thought that the 601 had a darker gray color.  Has all the anodizing simply worn off or were these finished in a completely different color originally.  The rifles look to be in great shape overall, which makes me think that the anodizing was not taken off due to hard use.  Any ideas?

Appears used original to me.  Thanks Frens for pics.  That's the 4th one I've seen in the serial #120's so I know 4 of them still exist.  Man that's screamin FA to me.

if you look at the buffer tube reinforcement area, you can see the darker original finish in the recess.  this is a rifle that's been "loved" and handled a lot.  kinda like those idf carbines.

One. Twenty. Five.
Damn.  I want that.  Even neutered, it's a piece of history––the 26th AR ever produced.  One of the few with unpainted furniture.  Pivoting sling swivel.  Correct early dimples.  I'm guessing the horizontal lines mag button (can't see that too well).
If that's the original Winchester barrel, I'd love to see its markings.

So are there any more pics of the first rifle?  Is that another 01 that someone changed the charging handle on, or is it an early 02?

Great wear/patina on these rifles!

glad you like those pics.
I've heard/read somewhere that only 7 model 01 are available in italy...all under 150 s/n range

the first 5 pics come from the importer's website but I'm quite sure the rifle in the first pic is a different rifle.
the newer CH, the rack number on the pistol grip and the black furniture make me think it's one of the 613 imported years ago

I'd definitely agree that it's a different rifle, but not a 613.  The angles on the rear tang of the upper receiver says it's a 601 or early 602.

I'll take the guy from Itialys word on the serial number thing.  From the back of my head I seem to recall many European contries require the serial number on the upper or barreled component of the firearms.  Makes more since to call the part of the firearm that has a barrel, breach, chamber, bolt, and firing pin a "firearm" than the trigger group.

Nice photo's! Thanks. She sure is pretty with all the wear and patina. Top one is deffinatley a 601 or 602. Square forged, 3-flats, and forging sanded down inside the carry handle. It also has correct parts on left side for these models, dimpled pins & selector, early bolt catch. OP, any chance you can get more pics of it?
