| Has anyone used Model 1Sales parts in a build and have any recommendations. They have a XM177 upper that I like but I don't know anything about the company. |
|
They have had in the past issues with their CC data being compromised. If they visit a gunshow in your area that way is the least risky.
I've built on their M-4 kit and the only down side is it doesn't seem to like steel. I've polished the chamber and it's running much better. |

Well now I am not to interested in this company . So let me ask does anyone know who makes XM177 type uppers. This type weapon was the hot weapon when I served during the Vietnam War era, so I would like to built a retro copy. From the picture in the ad they have in Shotgun News, it appears they use an A2 receiver in their XM-177 upper. If you want to go with something more true to the original, go with an A-1 upper. Nodak Spud makes a couple different retro style uppers, as well as lowers, and Fulton Armory sells an old style M-16 style upper with no forward assist or shell deflector. |

This post is really more suited to the retro forum rather than the build it yourself forum. Maybe you'd get more support over there with the retro pros. |

I bought an assembled upper w/ 20" barrel from them at a gun show a few years ago. First time I shot the rifle it worked fine. Couple weeks later, it won't hold zero (iron sights). After checking every thing I could think of, my buddy asks if I'd checked the barrel nut. Sure enough, it was loose. Gun shoots well (& holds zero) since.
I'm not suggesting this is Model 1's fault- I've since purchased other quality stuff from them. Just make sure you thoroughly inspect any assembly put together by someone else. |
