I'm getting ready to put together an AR of some sort but am on a budget. I see good prices at model 1.

What do you think about their quality for a first AR?

I have bought a few small parts with no issues.

I have never bought an upper. I did buy a lightweight barrel from them and the FSB was rotated a bit off.....I sent it back and they sent me a new one without any trouble.

I would buy from them again.

They have a great deal on charging handles with the extended latch installed..$25, can't beat that. That reminds me, I need to order 2 more

Added....Welcom to the boards

my m1s AR kit works fine now, but the bolt catch they give you with the lower parts kit is defective and needs to be replaced.

First Welcome. I would read a little more. Mod 1 is kind of the low end of the Quality scale. I would check out the Buld it yourself foarms and Then look at the EE. But do a lot more looking before spending. Have fun!

The guy with the model one in my class at blackwater ended up having to borrow a carbine from someone else to finish it. If i was buying a kit gun I would buy a J&T.

I don't know, it stopped going bang and throwing brass out the ejection port I don't know the specifics. I did talk to him recently and he said after it was rebarrelled it ran fine.

You've had yours awhile, by now you should have shot it enough to know that it's okay. I just would not recommend them as a first purchase as they seem to have a spottier record than J&T or Del-Ton.

Their quality may be at the low end but their customer service is BY FAR THE WORST of ANY business I've ever dealt with.

I think the people manning the telephones there should have their asses kicked.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Model 1 Sales.  I own several uppers from them, and they have been flawless.

However, I have heard what many others have expressed, that some of the small parts in their lower parts kit can be a little rough, so I don't think I would ever buy a lower parts kit from them (or use their LPK in their kits).  I do believe their overall quality may also have been worse in the past, but appears to have been pretty good over the last couple of years (especially since they moved to Texas)

As far as uppers go, I've been extremely pleased, and never had a problem with their customer service.  The seem to have a good reputation for simply replacing stuff if customers have any problems.

If that's all you can afford, go for it. Not my first choice however.

I bought a complete carbine kit from them last month.  The bolt catch didn't have a large enough hole for the roll pin, so I replaced that.  Everything else has worked perfectly.  Was even hitting dead center,  and approximately 2 " low on initial firing.

OK, so what would you guys recommend for a entry level flattop?
I need to keep this under $750 for the rifle itself, would like to go much lower if possible but maintain decent quality and accuracy.

Resale is not a concern. I'll probably keep the thing forever like other guns I own...

Thanks for the nice welcome BTW... Awesome site.
