Anyone ever deal with Model 1 Sales?  Looking at a couple uppers on their website.  They look very decent.

Good or bad would be appreciated.

Thanks!

They are hit and miss in both quality and customer service.  Most have nothing but success and good things to say.  More than a few have had nothing but trouble with their products and customer service.  While the misses are small in number, there are far too frequent for me.  YMMV.  I do buy some small, rather insignificant parts from them, like A2 FHs and innocent items like that.

Is this the Darth Vaderized company?

Nope, that's another company, M&A, IIRC.

I call M1S the greasy fried chicken AR company because when I bought from them at a gun show there was a fat lady eating greasy fried chicken behind the table, and she handed me an AR part coated with greasy-fried-chicken-fingerprints all over it (Blecch).

Try Del-ton.  They are a board sponsor and their prices are about the same as model 1.  I ordered a full kit and had it within a week.  I am very impressed with the fit and finish.  I've put almost 1,000 rds thru it and haven't cleaned the bore and it still looks great.  I'll probably end up buying 1 or 2 more from there.

I have 2000+ rds. through my M1s upper without a single glitch.  Accuracy isn't bad either.

Their prices are ok, but I can’t speak for their products.  I ordered some parts from them last year and the order never arrived.  I think the Post Office may have lost the order as we were moving and had set up a temp P.O. Box.  Eventually Model 1 did credit my credit card, and they were nice about it. I have no complaint regarding Model 1.

My barrel is from Model 1 and it is great!   I had originally ordered a barrel from RRA and after 5 months of waiting with no end in sight, I cancelled my order.

I called Model 1 and I had it in 1 week.  The man I spoke with was very friendly and gave me great customer service.

On the quality of the barrel... I am impressed, the accuracy is impressive!!!

I have an upper from them, it performs flawlessly, but the barrel is slightly over torqued causing my fsb to be a little off. I had to compensate for that by moving by ARMS back up sights alllll the way to the right just to get it to shoot straight.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that unacceptable.   I won't accept that on an AK, much less an AR.  Did you call them and attempt to return it?  If so what did they say?

For the most part, the majority of complaints surrounding Model 1 Sales seems to be:

1] Poor customer service. While I've had good service, others have not.

2] Uppers are generally really good. Barrels are same as JT's (Shaw), they seem great. Only issue concerning uppers I've ever heard is slightly canted FSB due it barrel install. This has caused many reports of people having to max out their windage to sight in.

3] Most problems in the past were related to the LPK. They are pretty bad if you ask me. Worst LPK out there. There was a time where many complained of broken bolt releases. Soft parts, some that needed fitting. If you clean the sludge oil they put on them with brake cleaner, you will see that they are cast parts. And poorly cast for that matter.

4] There was also a while when people complained about their bolts. A few people (2-3) posted pictures of bolts that broke at the cam pin hole after or around 1,500 rounds (so they claim). A few others echoed these same complaints, but posted no pics - just written testimonials.

5] Expect the gas key to be loose. I've had 2, and each were loose. They do not torque them down, nor do they seem to stake them properly. Also, the quality of the screws used are pretty low. Don't expect to torque them to even the higher end of the specification without snapping them.

I think that sums it up. I've had good success with mine (with the exception of the gas key). I didn't mind fixing that. Chances are most people have had good luck with M1S. The ones who haven't have been VERY vocal on this board, and quite frankly there is a bandwagon of M1S haters who jump on these threads and add little info, but lots of hate. That isn't to say M1S is the best out there. They aren't. They are the cheapest. And given the number of problem posts on here, they are the most problem prone, however, you have to decide if that is ok with you vs. the price you pay. There haven't been that many reports of issues, and think how many they sell?

No I never called them to return it, I bought the upper at a gun show no directly from Model 1. I have an amorer's kit on the way I'll try to fix it my self...............Or buy a LE colt next gun show  or Bushy M4 next time.

I got mine from Model 1 Sales.

Everything comes packaged very nicely, and ships in about a few days.

Heres my rifle.

I've ordered a shortly 7.62x39 from them. I use it on my M16.  The fit and function are great.  It arrived when they said it would.  The lady who answers the phone was helpful (they were moving from IL to TX at that time.).

The chamber isn't tight, and I'd order from them again.

I bought one of their 7 1/2" uppers. I didn't really have any confidence in doing business with them, knowing there were so many good quality companies on this board making superior products. But, this was just a senseless toy, so I ordered it from Model 1.
So, when I got the upper, I wasn't all that disappointed. The finish was the worst that I have seen. It looks like they spray painted it in the wind with flat black paint. Totally uneven and very poor coverage of the spray paint. And, when they installed the flash suppressor they severely scratched the finish and didn't even try to touch it up. I don't really care about the finish, but I think this speaks volumes about the quality control and the fact that they don't care that stuff like this is leaving their company to the consumer.

Pathetic.
Why buy junk like this when there are guys on this board putting together the best stuff out there ?
