Okay i dont see what is so wrong with Model 1. Their rifles are low priced and they have a LOT of different options. Can someone explain to me why so many people hate them? |
They are hit and miss in both the quality and customer service department. Like a women, it seems that you have to catch them at the right time to get both quality and service. Catch them at the wrong time, and you might not get either. |
Sounds like they are a "bitch" to deal with.

Correct They have in the last 6 months or so had a LARGE quantity of buyers leaving comments on bolts breaking - at the cam pin hole point on both sides - around 1500 rounds. I know this because I have one that did it lol I replaced it with a stripped RRA one which I heard about here - at the time selling for $25.00 Now they get $35.00 for them, but still a good deal on a great bolt - the difference in quality can be seen from the one from Model1sales. Also they really didn't care it broke, they wanted it sent back with the kit - which isn't gonna happen - I saw other posts on how they claim they don't have certified mail that was delivered to them Basically if you want a decent kit - go with J&T Dist - They are great to deal with, and they have great kits. G'luck |

I no longer advocate my very good experiences with certain inexpensive kit vendors who shall remain nameless lest I be labeled a "damage controll" lacky of theirs by other, more knowledgable members. Please note, that at no time during this post have I mentioned any vendor by name or deed. |

Get a bolt catch too - I went with bushmaster for a bolt catch, safety selector, disconnect. The bolt ctach most kits have the dreaded "X-38" which has too small of a hole for the roll pin and then causes the bolt catch to get stuck open - also they tend to be under heat treated - or over - they get excessively worn fast. bushmaster gets like 5.95 for a bolt catch assembly - which is with plunger spring and roll pin - and like 9.95 for a safey selecter - then the disconnect is like 6 something. bushmaster has better and darker parts - they better match the lower - and after 3k rounds through mine they show no wear. I am nobodys advocate - but I know what I did - and offer others help Which is what the poster was looking for... Best of luck and IM me anytime here if I can help in anyway - I know the first kit is like OMG - but they are easy :) Oh also J7T has a great habit of throwing a extra spring fr this and that in - and if by a rare chance your missing something like I was - they sent it out and I had it just a couple days l8r at no charge Good people

so if i get an M1S kit, get a RRA stripped bolt, bushy bolt catch, safety selector, and disconnector? you got an M1S kit and these items and your AR is still kickin' right? hmm...interesting *rubs chin* |

I like M1S barrels....Hey wait those are actually made by ER SHAW.... Well I've been happy with there barrels so far. Tell me more about Model 1. I've had some so so customer service, but the parts I've dealt with so far have been fine. Don't have one of there bolts or carriers though. I did get a couple strange parts from JT, but they were very responsive when I addressed it with them and they were only minor problems. I'd say Customer service is best with JT. M1S has seemed alittle like buy or don't buy we don't care. I still rate M&A worst on both cases. I've been bit piecing most of mine together with DPMS, M1S and JT (plus or minus some CMMG or Bushmuncher stuff) |
Same here.
Although I'm not 100% sure that is who Zamo was referring to, that is who I was. Tim Flame away Darth Vader and followers!

alright, what i'm gonna do is get an M1S kit and buy an RRA stripped bolt ($35), bushy bolt catch ($4.95), disconnector ($5.45), and safety selector ($9.95). total price should be approx. $540.35 now the only way anyone's gonna change my mind is if they show me an 14.5" M4 w/ 2" welded Phantom flashider for around the same price but better quality than M1S.

| look, its simple. Ive had two kits from them. The lower parts are soft and bend easy and most of them need fitting to the lower. I havnt had a problem with a bolt yet. What i would do is buy the kit, buy a rockriver arms or stag complete lower and buy a RRA or bushmaster bolt and carrier. Great rifle IMHO. My m1s rifle has a m1s chrome lined upper, a bushmaster bolt and carrier, a RRA lower with a mix of RRA and DPMS internals. Its an awesome rifle and cheap. |

now i've seen a lot of mixed comments on M1S...like i said: im gonna go with M1S + the mentioned parts unless someone can show me the same kit for around the same price and better quality... P.S. what if i got an M1S kit, RRA bolt, and a Bushy(or Del-Ton) lower parts kit and sold the M1S lower parts? (not on here; BTW, i have a Mega lower so Bushmaster(or Del-Ton) parts would fit right?) |
| My only dealing with M1S was positive. This past Sunday at the Dallas gunshow they had EoTech 552's for sale for $359. I tried to purchase one but the cell phone credit card swiper thing would not hook up to the network. Normal website price is $399. Called the main office on Monday and explained my situation they honored the gunshow price and charged only 10 bucks for shipping. So far M1S is OK in my book. Also mentioned was a complete company move from Fox River Grove, IL to Whiteright, TX 10 miles to my south. I'll do business with them again, I'm sure |
Blanco_Diablo,
Try these guys: jtdistributing.com. I have not bought a Kit from them, but talking to them about one now - same price range you mentioned before. Just a thought? |
well i found something LIKE what i was looking for on J&T but i think it's a regular 16"...also it says it has a "DS-4" stock...what is that exactly? regular M4 stock or un-collapsable stock? |

Have built two M1S kits and bought parts from them several times. I have a lot of rounds through my first kit with no malfunctions. Also had no assembly issues. I do realize however that M1's pricing structure does not provide for Bushy or RRA level of quality; I do expect reliability and I've gotten it thus far. |
I use my rifles a hell of a lot more than the average user and I have had not one problem. I built a 16"FF, 2 M4s, 1 20", and a 16"CAR for a friend- All M1. I put an average of 500rds through each rifle during the break-in period. I did find some loose gas keys- but I have found that from every manufacturer. |
| Just remember, when you buy from M1S you are supporting a women who cheated on her husband in his bed, then stole hundreds of thousands in cash from him. Of course after that he was forced to live with my neighbor for a few years until he could get his life sorted back out, but no biggie, right? |
poor guy ![]() yeah i think im gonna do Del-Ton or J&T...im not sure which one though... ![]() ETA: *hopes you were joking*

I go through about a thousand rounds a month in my AR's. Most of that is in my M1S M4gery, and, lately my M1S pistol and new A4 flattop. That may not seem like a lot of bullets to some of you guys, but when I compare it to how many rounds I put through my .270, or my .30-30, or even my DS58, it's a lot of ammo to me. And I've yet to have any quality control problem occur in any of the M1S rifles. I had one Model 1 Sales rifle that I know I had over 12,000 rounds through before I sold it to a friend. They may not be as nice as some of the other, higher priced weapons, but they are worth what you pay for them, and, this is the big thing, if a part doesn't work right, or you have a malfunction, or it fails...Get another one! Individual parts for AR's are so cheap, that you can always BUY another bolt if it fails. (If I were LE, or a Gov't agency were buying my weapons, maybe I'd opt for a higher end rifle, but I'm not. I shoot paper, cans, stumps, and an occasional wee beastie. I have yet to find any Al-Quada operatives in the Olympia area, but I am sure they inhabit at least half of the Senate and house...) Granted, if it fails in less than 2000 rounds, I'd like to check on warrenty replacement, but what is a bolt, $50? Gee, buy a new one. Parts wear. Oh! My barrel wore out after 6,000 rounds? Buy a new one. These things are modular. The parts are interchangeable. The coolest thing about the AR15 rifle, the various manufacturers, and this community, is that it has turned millions of us into basement gunsmiths (at least for the very easy to fix and work on AR15). I hae heard of people having customer service issues with them, but I haven't. I'm not trying to piss anyone off, and I'm not saying a $500 rifle has the quality of a $1200 rifle, but from my experience, the things work, and work well. I'd trust my rifle in any situation I'd find myself in. That is the highest recomendation I can offer. I just wish I could find the time to shoot more! |
