Who makes the uppers and barrels for Model 1?  Is it in house?  The reason I ask is I'm thinking of building a SBR on their 10.25" "pistol" upper and just want to make sure it will work out for me and not end up being a poorly functioning money pit.  If M1S is junk, please recommend another manufacturer in the $400-$500 price range who is better.

Model 1 barrels are Shaw barrels and I don't believe they do anything in house as far as barrel work.

What about the upper and other parts (B/BCG, etc)?

whats your budget like?  I would suggest contacting Steve at Adco, man they do great things over there and the service is fantastic.

I got one of their mini uppers, but had them switch the receiver out for a vltor.  Havent shot it yet but the work is first rate and by all accounts it was down right affordable for what i got.

Look in the EE. I can't recall who I got it from, one of the dealers, but DPMS Kitty Kat uppers (complete) are only about $425 delivered. Fun, reliable uppers. A2, but that can easily be swapped out if you so desire.

Can't speak for their 10" but I do have their 7" running fine on an M16.  A very good value for the money.

sorry, my sarcasm detector is a little askew... are you trying to tell me something with the ""  Last time I built an AR i got mixed reviews of M1S, and ended up going with Del-Ton because of it.  I'd really rather not end up with a SBR that doesn't run right.  My goal is for this thing to be my go-to rifle that I take just about everywhere with me, so I want to make sure it runs ok.  I'm not looking for 1/4 MOA at 300 yards or anything like that, just want it to go bang every time and be minute of bad guy out to maybe 150 yards.

I have two of there kits (M1S) and I love them.  I also have a Bushmaster 10.5 upper that I bought on the EE for 265 about 4-5 months ago.  I added a Perm-flash to make it legel length, but I used it on my pistol for a while and it functioned perfectly.  The 10.25 M1S worked perfectly also without any hickups also.  The best part is they both eat anything I feed them EVEN (wolf, barnaul)  GOOD LUCK, I DID

I've had experience with M1S stuff, and I will again. The ER Shaw barrels are a great bang for the buck buy, and if you're concerned, buy the upper from M1S w/o a BCG and stick a Bravo Co. BCG in it.

Myself and several of my friends bought M1S 10 1/2" uppers. We added Bravo Co. BCM complete BCG's on quality lowers with quality LPK's. Three seperate guys and several thousand rounds later not a problem one. All are pretty accurate. If I went with the M1S pistol upper I would use the Bravo Co. BCG's as we did. M1S LPK aren't all that great and for about the same money you can purchase the good LPK's.

I've had several M1S uppers of different sorts and all have performed for me. But I bought just the upper and used LMT or Bravo Co. BCG and like I said, quality lowers and LPK's. In the past month or so, I posted some pictures I took of a M1S upper that I had mounted on a DS lower and put my D-740 GEN III Select Alpha scope on. H-BAR, 16" barrel -- I shot a 1 5/8"  -- 20rd  100 yd group with on a very dark night. Two fliers that I called and discounted opened the group up to about 2 1/2". Go figure

I ordered a DMPS LPK from Brownells and a CAR stock to go with the DPMS lower already on the way.  Really the only decision left on this build is the upper, and of course all the ridiculous paperwork beforehand.

Well to answer your question directly - I know that they used to use LAR and RRA uppers with of coarse E.R. Shaw barrels. They skimp on things like using a front sling swivel roll pin instead of a rivet and the older round front sight pin instead of the square one. I can live with those things, some people can't. Sounds like your gtg on everything but the upper. All I can say is that from my experience with them, I'd have no problem buying from them again. I know their CS has improved a lot over the past year or so. One hell of a lot better than the CS I've gotten from Colt lately. Colt has an I could give a shit attitude, at least in my experience dealing with them. You'll love that build!!!!!

thanks for the heads up... Ordered a BCM BCG and CMT charging handle from them.  $50 more than M1S wants for the ?BCG/CH to be included with the upper... no biggie.  Gives me another part to test fire through one of my existing uppers before I commit to submitting the SBR paperwork on my lower.

You won't regret the BCM BCG. Kind of funny, the best staked BCG I ever received was from a complete upper I bought from M1S. It was a work of art!!!
