Lionel - I doubt that combo was still being made in '97, but you never know, governmental contracts being what they are. They were transitioning to the A2 receiver in '85-86 when I was in ROTC - the C7 uppers were substituted because they couldn't keep up with the demand for M16A2s... thus the M16A1E1, which was pretty much a stop gap measure. Regardless, nice upper - it'd make a nice 715 IMO. ETA: The early M16A1E1s had A1 spec pencil barrels in 1:7 - but that didn't last long at all. I believe most of the barrels from that contract became export items, mostly Israel. With I had one. Pretty rare birds.

Ive got the same upper. Bought it from a local Police Supply two weeks ago. They stated they were department trades. Mine came with a Surefire 510 forend. Barrel is dated 98. I was able to hand select the nicest one they had |

Quoted:
I asked A2 expert Augee to take a look at it and he thinks it's an export model or something to fill a LE order. something he noticed that i completely missed is that there isn't a M in the barrel markings. C M P 5.56 1/7 NATO anyone seen a missing M before? Well obviously, it wasn't built for the Mounties...
