Are firing moly rounds to break in a barrel good? or bad? I've heard different ways to do it and what works and not but want to hear anything anyone can share...

Toss them in the trash. Moly isn't worth the trouble, and if you change your mind later you may never be able to get all the moly out.

I would not break in with moly.  Use those after it has smoothed out some so that you get less Moly build up.  It's tough to impossible to clean the moly out.

Read an article about barrel break-in on the internet, sorry don't have the link, but I'm sure you can find it with a search.  The author sounded pretty knowledgeable and had spoken to several industry insiders working with barrels.

Some or a lot of the Moly on Moly bullets will scrape off and leave residue in the throat of the barrel, heat, pressure and copper fouling will combine to make a black residue ring that will NOT scrap out of the throat, and you're likely to damage the chamber/throat trying to scrap it out.

The article talked about a technique a top match barrel maker does personally, hand moly treating barrels, by using moly products that he works into the bore with a cleaning rod and brush covered with a patch.  Basically burnish the moly into the bore surface, then fire normal bullets through it.

Like the moly bullets, it may OR may NOT work, but at least burnishing the moly into the bore instead of coating bullets with it, will prevent scraped off moly becoming an uncleanable residue in the throat of the barrel.  Seemed like a smarter way to go to me.

Oh and barrel break-in is a myth. Shoot the hell out of it.
