What are the advantages of one of these systems? I have seen some by VLTOR, what are some other comapnies that make them?

Look at LMT as well. Lewis Machine and Tool. I don't have one so I can speak to the advantages first hand. I hear good reports about accuracy even with 10.5" SBRs.

LMT makes them too.

It's an integrated upper receiver and rail system. Apparently you can change barrels out pretty quick with them. The barrels come in different lengths and calibers.

ETA: I don't own one. But I do have their standard receiver.

In my opinion, the advantage of such a system is the endless amount of rigid continuous rail for mounting an optic(s) in any desirable position.

Monolithic handguards come close, but it is not recommended to span a scope across the two, meaning one ring on the receiver and one ring on the handguard.

Monolithic uppers eliminate this problem.

Besides Vltor, there is the LMT monolithic rail platform . . . the one that started it all . . .

Supposedly they also offer better accuracy since there is less twisting.  The receiver area is beefed up a lot over a standard A4.  I've heard reports saying accuracy can be improved by as much as 1/2moa with no other mods.  I call BS on that.  Maybe if you're using heavy recoiling loads in the AR platform I could see it, but then, what are those?  Maybe the 50 Beowulf, but that's never been an accuracy minded cartridge in the first place.  MJD

I guess accuracy would be improved because the barrel is free floated, especially in the rifle length. But I would call BS on 1/2 MOA.

Heavy loads? Maybe M855 compared to Rem. UMC?

Also as LMT states there are less parts. Less parts = less to break so that is a bonus although I am sure there are more important benefits like more rail space, more rigid free float etc. I love LMT but between them and the Noveske/Vltor design I gotta go with the Noveske/Vltor combo.
