I lurk a lot here but haven't really been very active, so apologies for being a newbie with a post like this....buuuuut...
Searched and didn't find much for what I'm looking for. Here's the idea - I want a range bag with backpack straps that I can throw a 14.5" into (broken down for minimal size), but that has either molle straps on the inside similar to 5.11's 42" double rifle case or something that at least holds the two receivers separately so they don't move around. It also needs to be an all-in-one range bag - I'd need room for mags, extra ammo, ear and eye pro, and maybe some shoot-n-see targets. Preferably, mags would also have somewhere to be secured rather than just dumped in the bottom. Here's where it gets tricky - most of the bags I've seen like this extend below your tailbone a significant amount, or long enough for an assembled SBR. A broken down 14.5" build is shorter than an SBR. I need the shortest height possible, because on a motorcycle if it hangs down too low it hits the seat and if it sticks up too high it catches the wind (and forces your helmet forward uncomfortably). The only things I've found that even come close so far are these: http://www.greyghostgear.com/product-p/6024.htm http://www.tacticaltailor.com/phantomtrekkersbrbag.aspx https://www.eberlestock.com/S25_CherryBomb.htm#/ (and the usual 5.11 and blackhawk ones, neither of which have anything that fit what I'm looking for). I don't want it to scream tactical, but if it does and fits everything I need then that's fine. The main thing is I want the bare minimum height for a 14.5" upper receiver, since that's the longest piece, and I don't want it to obtain that by a goofy obvious barrel sleeve that sticks out from the rest of the pack. So far, the Eberlestock looks like the best/smallest one, but I'm not sure - and those price tags for all of them are hefty. Thoughts? |
| I too needed a discreet case for occasional transport on the bike. I have a 16" barreled rifle and didn't want to have to break the gun down. Just going to the range is one thing, but when going on extended outdoor trips or carbine coarses, the rifle gets mudded up = case gets mudded up = rifle jamming up. I ended up with the Vanquest Rackit 36. High quality materials and construction. My second choice would've been one of the Sneaky Bags cases. |

Yeah I saw the Sneaky Bags, but even their smallest 27" still looks too much like an oblong gun case to me, though the interior stuff is very close to what I'd like.
One thing that sucks is living in CA when I go to the range it's 10 round mags all the way. I use grenade pouches which are the perfect size to hold 2x10rd mags, so the interior webbing is kinda necessary (I do have 30s too for when I'm going featureless). |

LaRue Tactical has a real nice case that's meant to be user configurable for organizing a broken down rifle and accessories. Just can't remember whether or not it has at least a cross strap for secure motorcycling. This one? http://www.larue.com/covert-rifle-case-mkII Doesn't have shoulder straps and still a little long looks like - they've got a 20" upper in there looks like. It's close as far as interior goes, but single sling doesn't cut it on a bike, I've tried. Needs to be more secure as a backpack. Might just go with something like this and repurpose it: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babolat_Pure_Play_Tennis_Bags_BlackOrange/descpageBGBAB-BAPPTBBBP.html |
