Gentlemen,

Longtime lurker, recent member & first post.  Would like to submit for your consideration and comments some flat-top mount questions.  I have spent considerable time reviewing past posts and have a few questions.  I own a Bushmaster XM15 E2S-20” A3 and a Leupold Vari-XII 6x18x40 scope (14” long).  I have read to exhaustion on the pro/con’s of LaRue /Mamba/A.R.M. configurations.  My general preferences are leaning toward the LaRue SPR or A.R.M (ARM#38 sleeves, ARM#22 med rings, 1” insert bushings).  Both options are on the expensive side, but I realize you get what you pay for.

I have a few questions.

Why is there very little comment on the Armalite mount?  It looks like a quality mount for the relatively cheap price.  Will it maintain repeated accuracy?  Is it just adequate?  Is it crap?

Both the LaRue & the Mamba are compensated for minute-of-angle downward slope.  I understand the concept.  It seems to be a consideration only at long distances.  With my scope choice does it matter?

What about the Bushmaster 7” B.M.A.S. QD Rail Ext. with some quality rings (Any recommendations on manufacturer, medium or high?).  Will it maintain repeated accuracy?  Is it just adequate?  Is it crap?

Have been considering BUIS options depending on my choice.  Are there any folding rear BUIS that are a sure bet to work with my stock front sight/block?

Not trying to be too cheap, just wondering if I can get similar results and save a few bucks.  I’m a civilian & it’s mostly a hobby.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also looking for answers to these questions.  Trying to decide on a mount for a 50mm VXIII on a Varminter.  Can anyone help out?

The 20MOA bases on the market are only neccessary at ranges somewhere between 450 and 1000meters with scopes with relatively limited elevation range of adjustment.  If your scope has 60MOA or less of total internal adjustment and you plan on those ranges I strongly reccomend them.  (That of course depends on where the scope zeros but in most cases that has been my experience)

Of course a cheaper option is Burris Posi-align Zee rings on a riser mount-- the rings can be shimmed using Meshershmitt<misspelled bushing style inserts with eccentric holes up to 40MOA (using 20MOA insert sets in both rings mounted opposed to each other).   Those will allow you to get to 1000yds with about any scope on the market.

There is a slight parralax and accuracy issue which suggests that the scope will perform optimally at the center of it's adjustment range but if you are a big enough freak to care you should probably buy a US Optics externally adjustable (as opposed to internally adjustable) scope.
