I understand this scope might not be anywhere near the high end scopes that are out there..but as quoted in the "Godfather", I had offer I couldn't refuse...
My question is..does the mounting screw of a NcStar 3-9x42 scope all the way out in order to place it on the rifle's mount? Let me take it a step further please..will the NCStar rings fit on a mount like this? [/url] What you probably need to do, is search and read about the differn't type of mounts (weaver, picatinny, ......etc.)

I am sorry if it seems that it's fashionable to bash NcStar scopes, but we are trying to do you a favor. Ammo is too expensive to waste sighting in a junk scope that won't hold zero. |

Wow are they really that bad?

For range use, with a good set of rings, MOST NcStar scopes will be fine.
I have a buddy who has one, and its held a zero and does what he expects out of it. His complaints are: can't see the illumination during the day, and the crosshairs are pretty thick. Don't let ARFCOM gear queers make you feel bad. If you made a bad decision, you'll find out on your own. Edit to add: Usually ARCOMERs are right. Depending on your personality/needs, you'll end up selling the scope for a loss and spending more money on something better. Also, if your new to the AR platform, use and master the iron sights FIRST!!!!!! Military personel make hits with irons out to 600yds. |

It is all about probability. One might get lucky and come across an NcStar that holds up, but based upon the consistent reports to the contrary, the odds would appear to be quite low.
I have never personally owned one, nor do I ever plan to [I must be one of those gear queers that you mention], but I did get to experience one firsthand at the range, and it was quite simply terrible. A relatively inexperienced friend of mine was trying to sight his in, and commented, "why can't I hit the same place twice in a row?" We are not talking 1 MOA shift, more like 6-8 MOA EVERY SHOT! I am no professional sniper, but couldn't do any better with his rig. He then tried my weapon/optic, and was able to print 1 MOA 5-shot groups, just as I consistently can, so it was not the shooter. We also tried the same ammo in both weapons to isolate that variable. This is not to suggest that one needs to buy a Mercedes, but a Toyota Corolla has a much better chance of performing favorably than a Yugo. As is the case with many consumer goods, mid-priced optics often present the best value in the context of the law of diminishing returns. ETA: I like the duct tape idea; it seems consitent with NcStar's capabilities. |
