Hello everyone, I need advice.

I bought a used AR-15 for home defence. It is CAR flat-top configuration with an M4 16" (bushie) barrel. I think the barrel is 'shot out' and it needs to be replaced.

I was thinking of making this a multi-role gun and was wondering if it's possible with one upper:
1) home defence
2) varmiant / plinking
3) high power match

<pre>
barrel:      1) 16" std, 2) 16" ss,     3) 20" ss match
handguard:   1) std,     2) free float, 3) free float
trigger:     1) std,     2) 2-stage,    3) 2-stage
front sight: 1) std,     2) flip up,    3) std
rear sight:  1) flip up, 2) scoped,     3) std
upper:       1) a3       2) a3          3) a2
</pre)

Questions:
How many rounds is a chrome/ss barrel good for?
Can a scope work with regular front sight on a flat top?
Flip-up sights legal in high power matches?
Should a gunsmith install a match barrel?

So, is it possible to have all three missions in one upper? Any comments and recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is one option

Its a nice idea if you can afford a few extra barrels to meet your needs.

to build one rifle with the idea of mastering all your requirements will be hard, would be jack of all trades but master of none. there will be certain things that will work better for one thing but not the other.

A stainless 16" precision barrel would cover it.  Should do fine out to 600 yards, be light enough for home defense use and make a pretty good walking varminter.

Something like this (with an Eotech for home defense)

To use for Highpower service rifle class you must use an A1, A2, or A3 with carry handle, 20" barrel that looks stock on the outside. You can have ;a 2 stage trigger 4lbs min, hooded rear peep, float tube under the A2 hand guards, bull barrel, lead weights under the hand guards and in the butt stock. With your setup you will have to compete in the match class and will be seriously disadvantaged with the non floated 16" barrel not to mention you probably have a allow twist barrel that will not allow you to shoot 80gr pills at the 600 yard line. I suggest that you get a dedicated upper for highpower.
