Trying to avoid my rifle being "too busy" with all kinds of shit hanging on it. I have a laser with a pressure switch that has a coiled cord and I just ordered a light which also has a pressure switch (straight cord). Is it stupid to have 2 pressure switches on my foregrip? Or stupid to have 2 pressure grips period? Any suggestions on how to make the most of my setup? I'm thinking the best route is no pressure switch on the light but there are some creative people out there.

I'm all ears. Thanks!

Out of curiosity what is the light and laser for? what is your purpose behind them?

The light is being used for home defense and for hunting (NOT shining while hunting, but using it to get to/from my blind) and the laser is being used for just home defense.

Stupid?  Not necessarily, but for your purposes, it doesn't sound like it's going to have the desired affect.

1) If you're using a white light for traveling (i.e. to and from your blind) you'd be much better suited with a flashlight or a head lamp.

2) An RDS is most likely going to be a far better option for home defense than a visible laser.

Get a Petzl and wear it on your head/hat, and run an RDS for HD.  You should need no more than one tapeswitch for the weapon mounted light.

Just remember a light works both ways, a startled intruder could fire on that light giving him a target.

If your using a light to get to a deer blind I would just buy a mag light with a red lens, They last a year or longer depending on how much you use them on one set of batteries.

As far as tape switches you do only need one. If its home defense dont use an assault rifle unless you have to. I have seen from experience in Iraq a rifle punch through a building (from the inside out) travel 100 yards and still have enough force to punch through a metal vehicle killing the driver... Use a shotgun, you dont need a laser on a shotgun....

So much fail in this post.   You forgot to add that just racking the shotgun will scare off most intruders.

He's been parroting outdated firearms theory in several threads. Sounds like a cop who hasn't kept up with improved TTPs and relies on his local gunstore for firearms knowledge.

lol @ the outdated, how about functional real world experience.

not a cop, just someone who has been able to see what does and does not work in the real world. Not your youtube theories and videos, just real people being patched up or sent home and learning from their sacrifices.

I have both a LDI DBAL-D2 and a Surefire X300 Ultra on one of my M4s. I have a Surefire dual switch on it to run them both off of one tapeswitch.

Dude, I "do" guns for a living (and not at a gun store). There's a LOT of guys in here with real world experience as well. Your point of view, while common, is wrong. Do some reading.

Well in that case...

You are not the only person with "functional real world experience," as you put it, to have weighed in on this topic.

A friendly word of advice to a new member - you are more than welcome to state your opinions and your reasons for believing so in an articulate and well supported way.  Feel free to mention your experiences where relevant.  However, you will not get far if you hold on to the "I went to Iraq so that makes me right" mentality.

And finally:

Most scientific evidence and a great deal of collective practical experience disagrees with you.

Was going to post this. IF you end up running both, the Insight or Surefire dual switches work well. Just keep in mind what light you have.

I can't remember the brand but I believe it's an "off-brand". Can you use those with different manufacturer's products?

Well,

After the hen cackling is over... :)

Everyone has different scenarios and/or mos for thier " ideas"....

That aside...

I try to stear most people from light, let alone lasers on thier ar for hd...

There are two main reasons...

1- 99% of people will be under serious stress at the point where they need thier ar for home defense...

Adreniline is a powerfull thing...and even the best trained people in the world have a hard time with the spike when under stress...

Everything from rapid breathing, vision changes, time isn't even experienced the same way...

Now, even someone that trains everyday will still have this effect, but, may be able to mitigate or stave off the spike long enough to get the job done...

So, remembering witch tape switch is for what light will be way down the list...

So, unless you have been trained for the proper use of lights, and trained in stress management, and trained in "real world" stressful situations I doubt you'll hit anything...shooting into the air will do about the same...

Now, I know there are people on here that have this training and the ability to stave off the adrenaline spike too...but, your not the people asking about multiple tape switches on an at for home defense either...so chill out!

2- Lights are nice, work great for lots of things...but not everything needs to be on your ar...op, your scenarios IMHO would be a headlamp...I have several myself...and maybe a momentary on light on the ar at most...

I have more tested weapons without lights than with...

I've had lots of training over the years...and quite varied experience as well...and I'm not going to compare scars here...

My go to weapon of I need one in my master suite is a rem 870 with a surefire forend...

Now, I also live in the sticks, so outside my bedroom it's a ar with a tlr1s hp...

.....

OP, there is nothing wrong with having a light for your weapon, they don't get used that much in the hd situation...but they work great on yotes and alike...if you want a light I'd go with streamlight or surefire...dont cheap out...a failed light is a liability your don't want...

So, if you hear a bump in the night...grab your shotgun...even put a light on it...great...if you don't have a shotgun...save the money you were going to spend on that light, goto your lgs and grab a used 870...you'll be fine with that...

Just FYI...each of my 4 bedrooms, 2 offices, presentation room, theater, it center, and my gun vault have at least one shotgun at hand...even my guest quarters have places for shotguns...they are the best hd weapon you can get IMHO...

Now, back right on topic...I'd stay away from anything that just doesn't work naturally on any weapon..

Ex. When your grab my shotguns...all of whitch have the surefire forend's...there are large easily operated buttone / tape switch that are easy to operate and are right where your hand is anyhow...and most people don't like looking down a 12ga...it's a big hole...and at regular house ranges will more than do the job...

Well, that's my 2 cents...

Bret

P.S. if your have a specific need...like my longer distances at night...let us know...that may clear up the exact use of this gun or weapon...

Dude... your responses are some of the most irritating posts to read, to the point where I'm not even sure if I would agree or disagree with what you're saying because I can't read what you're writing.

Ellipses should be used sparingly, not after every sentence.  Also, you seem to have taken the opposite approach to the common "I have never heard of paragraphs" to the ridiculous extreme.  Not every sentence you write needs to be its own paragraph.  Cut down on the ellipses, and resist pressing "return" after every single thought.

Grammar foibles, spelling errors, misuse of homophones I can get through with little problem - but it is flat out difficult to read your posts.  Authority and legitimacy are not proportional to the amount of space your post takes up on a computer screen.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but the old "best home defense is your shotgun" cliche is really tiresome.  Big hole.  Loud frightening noisy rack.  Blah.  Blah.  Probably ought to load it with birdshot so it won't ever penetrate.
