I remember a guy who did a pretty good comparison test of different muzzle brakes.  If I remember correctly he had the gun on a lead sled type device on a piece of plywood with a sharpie on the butt of the gun that would make a mark on graph paper to show how far back he gun recoiled. I have looked everywhere on the net and can't seem to find this comparison test website anywhere.  I'm sure someone here has seen this great test of muzzle brakes and bookmarked it.  If you have the url please help me, as I'm banging my head against the table looking for it everywhere.
