Do they increase the sound when firing? I use hearing protection 98% of the time but on ocassion I get reckless off the porch. I don't have a rile fit with one but I am getting one.

Yes they do. I would never shoot an AR with a muzzle brake without hearing protection.

I did the other day . Note to self. "Just having the hearing protection on your head is not enough. You have to put them over your ears."

Id recommend always using hearing protection... wether your breaked or not...

Yep! I wear ear plugs and muffs regardless of whether the gun is wearing a muzzle brake or flash-hider...The MB is LOUDER though for sure!

Since the muzzle is the most important part of a rifle in terms of accuracy I'd advise not braking it or doing any other kind of harm.
