I have a stock muzzle break I want to replace with a better muzzle recoil break!  What do I need to do to get this break off?  Will a towel and wrench work for this?

Most muzzle brakes where bind pinned or pressed on for the post ban period.

If the brake was spun on then pinned, the there is a chance that you can either find the welded portion, grind there and remove the blind pin, or just split the brake like a banana to remove it from the barrel.
Note: If the brake was pressed on (not spun then pinned), then there will not be any threads under it, and you would have to send the barrel off to be threaded for the new FS.

It is a new upper so do you think its just threaded?

Give Stag a call and see how they installed the brake.  This will give you idea of if/where they installed the blind pin then welded over it, and if the brake/barrel was threaded to begin with.
