Hope this is a good place for this post....

First off let me introduce myself as this is going to be my first post. I am Chris and live behind enemy lines in the USSR of Kalifornia. Hopefully a move within 6 months back to the USA!  I am from the HD of So Cali. Lurked here and there but never really joined up.

Ok, now that is out of the way onto the good stuff and the reason I joined up.  I need to pay a shot out to Ifixvws where I got my inspiration for my ammo storage. It all started with the wife getting mad at me for all my ammo being stored in the closet....  She said I was taking up to much of HER side of the closet and had no where for her shoes....  WELP as anyone will tell you, dont argue with the wife of ammo vs shoe storage.   So I searched around online for an idea on storage and discovered the use of a job box. (A new safe is out as I dont want to move the HUGE thing moving, Ill buy one when i land in the USA.)  A little further digging I found the box done up by Ifixvws. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_16/542246_Job_Boxes_for_ammo_storage.html

So I was off on my hunt for a used but not abused box.  Found one at a yard sale around the corner from my house.. Some haggling later, I got her home for 200 bucks with caster and locks.

I dont know if Ifixvws is still around as his posting was kinda old, but gotta still say THANKS!!

ONTO THE PICTURES!!!!

Next Post... I am new and limited on posting size...

Welcome to the site.  When you stop by GD, be sure to have thick skin as we tend to be suspicious of new members until you are here for a few.

I looked at the before/after pics and it looks great.

No. It's easier to post pics as a member though.

Looks great. Guess you have to be strategic about how you pack it so you have easy access to a variety of calibers and organized storage of the lower layer(s)

The way I have it laid out is the individual caliber are stacked atop eachother with the full cans being on the bottom. Almost everything is in 50 cal cans with the exception of the 22lr.  The 50 cals will stack 3 high in most of the box.  2 high under the handle and lock. I think ive loaded it and unloaded it like a dozen times trying different layouts.

Welcome drumbic,

Storage box looks good, cleaned up nicely.

You planning on adding anythything to keep the moisture down and the temp in the box relativly normal?
I would add a packet of desiccant to each ammo can and a box in the box as well, just for peace of mind.

Also, check out the safe and home security subforum. Theres some good threads in there that might be useful:  Home security

Thanks!

Each can has a packet in it currently, anytime i open the can i check the packet. Also do a full recharge/replacment of my packs once a year around 4th of July.  I am in a dry area so moisture isnt a huge concern for me. The rechargeable desiccant in the safe rarely needs recharging.  I added a seal around the lid of the box to help control moisture and whatever else will try to get into it. Plus the seal on each can is in great shape. More of a double coverage and maybe overkill. But I like having it and not need it, than need it and not having it.

I use a couple of job boxes filled with ammo cans for ammo storage. No wheels, if I have to move them it doesn't take long to pull out the ammo cans. I use a mix of fat 50s, regular 50s & 30 cal cans for about 10 different calibers.

I am not entirely sure how heavy it is with all my ammo in it... I can still push it around with a little effort. But still moves with just me pushing/pulling it. Now lifting it would be insta hernia!

I like the tall 50cal cans I picked up at a local show couple months ago.  I can stack two of the talls or three of the standard 50cals cans.  I haven't ever found much use for the 30cals... I tend to outgrow them quickly... LOL

Hello cgn dude, nice project. Looks like it'll hold just over 1.5 barrels of loose 556, and now you have a goal.

Thanks All. Now that its to this point... I keep looking at it like... "I need a light kit for it..." But than i remember i open it and the garage light fills it... I am thinking of doing something on the underside of the lid to hold some knifes and such/....

Not sure how much it would cost, but you could probably get molle panels then just use standard pouches. Maybe pop rivet or industrial glue it to the lid.

Velcro seems like another plausible option.

I suggest you take a hit to capacity and line it with fire rated drywall or similar product.

.    Here's what I used to heat mine attached to a thermostat in a unheated garage. Insulated and air tight stays 60-64 year round and around 20% humidity

Nice job, OP.

I have been told that you can fit 78 50-cal ammo cans under this. (King size)
