Thank for all the postings and personal advice from everyone.
I love building these things.

very nice build.  How do you like your pentagon light?
3/11/2007 5:23:16 PM EDT
[#2]
Love it.
But in all fairness, all of my other lights are LED and can't compare.
Calvin at brightflashlight is great. Surefire is just to expensive for me.
I'm no spec or tact ops guy that needs the best of the best.

That is a sweet looking first build
I can tell all the parts except for the receivers......they sure are black

They are Mega receivers and are super black.
Although the fit on the lower is about as loose as a drunken sailor.
I need to send It back to Mega for replacement.
This is my second receiver I'm sending back for replacement.

For a wiggle I'll just drop a foam earplug in the shelf under the rear take down pin

Or you could buy an accu-wedge.

I've got the accu-wedge on it's way.
It's like buying a broken car or bad food or new computer and fixing it.
Fixing old used anything is understandable.
Buying a brand new TV and immediately replacing the tube or seeing a dead pixel.
One shouldn't need to do these things.
But It happens and no one is perfect.

All my builds with different brand recievers have an annoying amount of wobble, but i use an accu-wedge and it makes them tight as a drum. I use one in my Bushmaster and it is pretty tight without it.

Nice carbine.

does the accu-wedge stay put ?
I'm assuming that it WEDGES in the receiver and doesn't move?
3/12/2007 10:39:45 AM EDT
[#15]
That is exactly what i am think about doing when i start building mine, furniture wise that is.

The Larue rail is really nice.
The rails from MI are kewl but bulky
The rails from YHM are cheap but heavy
The Larue is not cheap but very kewl and lite.
IMHO

Oh yes, it sits in the lower, right under the rear take down pin hole, and the upper reciever lug is pressing down on it. You have to squeeze the recievers together to get the take down pin in. It`s made of rubber and some trim it so it`s easier to put the take down pin in and out without having to squeeze the recievers together too much.

Welcome, I think the accu-wedge is the best thing since sliced bread.

It could be that the upper isnt quite right too as far as upper and lower fit.  Thats the fun part about builds(you never know how 2 brands will fit together)  I dont know that anything is wrong with your mega lower.

I thought about that aswell so I took tried my two uppers on a friends lower and It was very tight. All three of his uppers where slut loose on my lower. That makes FIVE uppers that are loose on my one MEGA lower.
I was hoping that it was the upper...No luck there

Wow, that lower must have a very low shelf to still be loose with the accu-wedge. Hope you get a more harmonious outcome next time.

that wiggle is not a problem worthy of a fix...
my NIB colt had a slight wiggle... it's definitely not worth sending an upper back... it's not really a problem..

a problem is when you need a hammer and punch to assemble/disassemble the upper and lower... that's just ridiculous...

I Can't argue with you about the hammer and punch thing.
The wiggle just bugs the hell out of me.

i'd rather have a little wiggle that annoys me but i can shoot this week than be without an upper for another couple weeks.

Well to each his own. I've got over 2K in this baby and I want it to be tight.
Every time I go to hit the light I can feel it tweek. Would I say it's a problem? NO
It doesn't affect the function of the rifle. BUT damn it annoys the piss out of me.

Was that from the most recent batch of Megas?  How many did you get and were they all loose?  Who did you get them from?

Thx
