So my wife surprised me this year for our anniversary and gave me a stack of cash and said "go buy that gun you keep talking about building." Living here in California the prices have come back down on lowers for now and the next ban hasn't hit yet so now was the time to buy. I went to Shooters Warehouse which is just across the highway from my house. Great bunch of guys there, they don't mind answering a bunch silly newbie questions and are very knowledgeable and informative. I picked up a Phase 5 Tactical stripped lower and CMMG lpk with bullet button. After the states 10 day waiting period I picked up my lower. I chose the Phase 5 because they are a local shop and I've only ever heard good things about all their products. The CMMG lpk lived up to all the expectations I had based on all the great reviews from this site.
My original plans were to buy all components for upper and lower and do a full build for this rifle taking my time and finding things on sale since I have a limited budget. However I was searching for a stripped upper last weekend when I stumbled upon the Palmetto State Armory weekend special. A complete 16" 1:7 chrome lined flat top upper with chrome lined BCG and charging handle and standard A2 front site and hand guards for $399.99. It didn't take long to figure out I would have a hard time buying the pieces for this set up one piece at a time especially chrome lined for anything close to this price. So my trigger finger hit the button and now I'm waiting oh so impatiently for UPS to bring it to me. Since I had my upper on order I went ahead and assembled my lower the other night. Being a mechanic I already owned roll pin punch sets brass drifts and non-marking dead blow hammers in every shape and size imaginable so the build went a good bit quicker then I had expected. Using actual roll pin punches especially my extended length set took away all my worries about scratching the lower while driving the pins in. I had a Matco punch that once i had the bolt catch pin fully driven in still extended past the lower an 1/8th of an inch with the lower stood on end so the hammer never had to get close to the finish. The trigger pull is a little heavy as to be expected but not much more than what I remember from shooting the old A2's we had in the Coast Guard. I still don't have all the parts I need to finish my build. So far I'm short 10 round California legal magazines, rear sight, butt stock and buffer tube assy. A sling would be nice as well. I've blown what funds I have available till next week but if anyone here has their old rear sight or butt stock or buffer tube maybe we can work out a deal especially if your in northern California might save some on shipping. I'm not picky on brand or anything just need the last couple things to get this up and shooting. Also just wanted to say a quick Thank You to everybody on this site. I read read and read some more before buying or starting my build and this is the first time I have made a post on here because I was able to answer all my questions from the sticky section and from questions other people posted. https://sphotos-a-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/73573_10151725253927226_1431302929_n.jpg https://sphotos-b-lax.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/1150959_10151733341587226_626240482_n.jpg |

So I decided to try the crayon color fill. Rather pleasantly surprised by how detailed it turned out.

Dude, its a commercial tube, but i have that with a commercial size basic stock. no castle nut (may have the end plate) but if you want i can just ship you them. I dont really want the clutter of parts here and id rather donate to a project. PM me and i can send it over. nothing special, so ill just send them to you. If you dont like it, sell it for all i care.
BTW im in cali too which is the main reason. Gotta help out those in Kommifornia! Edit: Found it, it would be this. http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/r775/akeurogti/stock_zps993cf04c.jpg |
