I have been off and on looking for an AR to complement my small collection, and now with the possibility of another AWB with the next president, I'm hurrying to make sure I don't make the mistake of waiting too long. I've come to the conclusion that I want a flat top upper, and probably a 16 inch barrel, though I'm open to 18" and 20" as well. I came across what may be a very good match for me at the local gun haven, a new Rock River 16" A4 carbine.

I really like the fit and finish of it, and really like that it has a removable carry handle included. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the chrome moly barrel instead of a chrome lined. I have not idea if the trigger is two stage or not, but the rest seems to be completely stock. The cost before tax is $850.

Is this a good deal, or should I hold out for something better? I see on gunbroker that this rifle is going for over $900 on average, and that would be before shipping and FFL fees, which would easily even out the tax after all is said and done. That, and the carry handle is not included on any of the auctions. I'm hoping to make the purchase in 5 hours (after I get out of work) so does anyone have a recomendation for me?

Thank you in advance.

850 sounds like a decent price for a RRA. Unless you plan on putting tens of thousands of rds though the bbl in about a year or so, you will be fine with a chrome moly.

There will be plenty of people here in a minute to tell you that it is chrome lined or nothing...

I have a RRa A4 with the quad rail on it. Mine shoots great no complaints so far I think you would be happy with it

Don't do it. I was in your shoes a year ago and I bought my first AR. Chrome lined Bushmaster new from my local gun shop. I only wanted to pay about $1000 which is what it cost me and I was entirely happy...

Until I got the sickness. Eotech...3X magnifier...BUIS...next thing you know you want an entirely new AR. Now I want to sell my bushmaster to finance the order I just put on my credit card....Noveske N4 low pro complete rifle.

Buy once, cry once. Really long and hard type of cry, something like a new inmate who just gets his manhood taken, but just once....

hinking.gif My god... That's horrifying. hinking.gif

I bought a DSA STG58 (FAL kit) a few months back and I added probably another $200 to it before I was done... A DSA dustcover replacement to give me rails on top, a brass savr and a cheap 3-16x illuminated scope. I like it the way it is now, so I'm trying to control myself and not get any more stuff for it. Now I just want something to shoot that won't cost me $50 to spend an hour shooting. :(

Hopefully I can save a bit by going easy on a AR. Lord knows I've already got enough .22's and 9mm's.

Buy what ever YOU like that YOU can afford.

There is no need to sell a rifle to buy another one... buy once and then buy another one later down the road that is "better" than the first

Yes, that is my way of thinking. No way could I sell my FAL unless I was in dire need of money. Like I said, I want to add it to my collection.

Does anyone have any suggestions as an alternative, like a parts kit or great deal online? Also, is it very hard to work with a parts kit? By kit, I mean everything minus the lower receiver.
