Greetings all, long time shooter and AR virgin here....

After waiting 9 days for my background to clear in CO I picked up my AR and found a problem already.

The gas block/gas tube is not aligned exactly at the 12 o'clock position.  It's hard to guess but I'd say it's about 10degress to the left of true center as you look towards the muzzle from the stock.  I tried to contact the manufacturer to day but no response after 2 voice mails and an email.

I am erring on the side of caution and not firing this weapon until I hear if it's safe or not and what needs to happen to repair it.

If the gas tube in the block is L of center does that mean the barrel is tightened down to far?  Again I'm an AR virgin and just trying to get a better understanding of the issue.

I suppose I could start by calling the place where I purchased the rifle but they left a sour taste in my mouth after selling me MBUS sights and actually mounting the front sight to a piece of pic rail they attached to the top of the MOE hand guard.  Yes they mounted a flip sight to the top of the MOE.  At the time of purchase I didn’t know this was BS but it didn’t take long to learn it to be so.

Anyways I’ll try to attach some pix, they aren’t very clear but I think you can see what I'm trying to describe.

The barrel appears to be indexed properly judging by the placement of the stamp, but the gas block is definitely canted. That looks like a Yankee Hill block that should be held in place by two set screws on the bottom. You can loosen them, rotate the block into position and re tighten. Don't over tighten them though. Before you do this, check the alignment of the barrel extension inside the receiver. We could help you out a bit more if you could post a photo of it. The gas tube is most likely also out of alignment, so I would not manually operate the bolt group to avoid possibly damaging the tube or gas key. To be honest, I would not risk taking it back to them if it is only the block that is canted. I would fix it myself and avoid another potential mess with them.

Lets start at the beginning, and work backwards.

Center of gas port should be center line of barrel extension pin.

So shotgun the upper open, and look at the center of the barrel feed ramps against the front take down lug.   If the barrel feed ramps are bottom of top dead center, then now you can suspect that the gas block was not installed correctly.

If the center of feed ramps are not center of bottom center, then that would explain why the block is off TDC of upper receiver index as well.

Check for block/barrel port alignment first! Shoot some air in there and see if it goes out the gas tube before you move anything! If it goes thru then you could have a BIGGER poblem!!

Thanks for the help fellas!

Here are a couple of shots of what I think you're asking about:

Barrel is slightly clocked off/ bottom of feed ramps off bottom of center of the center line of the receiver, and why the gas block is clocked off TDC of center linen as well.

If it bothers you, then send the upper back to the manufactor to have the barrel and gas block correctly installed TDC/BDC of center line of the upper receiver.

If I chose to shoot it (leaning towards not shooting it for now) as is should I expect issues with feeding?

Regardless whether it functions or not ain't the question! You shoot it and the manufacturer is liable to say you screwed it up!!!

At this point I can't get the manufacturer to say anything.  They dont answer phones or reply to voice or emails.

I hear what you are saying though!

Are they listed under the "Industry" thread section? You might try that approach. For instance RRA and PSA have monitors that respond even in this time of high demand.
