Almost ready to start and I'm getting excited. heir http://webpages.charter.net/pjaugust/Before1.jpg Just finished it. Got to put some reloads together and off to the range.http://webpages.charter.net/pjaugust/Build.jpg |
http://webpages.charter.net/pjaugust/Night.jpg Nite Optics, D-440, Gen 2+ with a High performance tube. For late night activities. hippie.gif I also have a Barska 6-24x44 IR - SWAT Tactical on order. From all I've read it's a decent scope at a reasonable price. Still up in the air about rings. I'll probably go with Smith or Badgers. |
It looks like you're going to have a great time with your project. ![]() Have you seen LaRue Tactical products? If you already have your LPK you could start on your lower half, just make sure you mask your lower receiver to avoid any scratches and go slow. I'm new to building ARs, I only built 3 lowers and one upper so far. Good luck! |
|
Dude! I can't believe it! I have a project that I just started which will be VERY similar to what you've got going on here (so I obviously dig what you're doing)! The only part I have in hand at the moment is the M4 upper, but I have that exact float tube and stock on order, and I just ordered my barrel this morning from Compass Lake Engineering that will be very much like yours. (...with the exception I no provision for flash hider / comp.) I'm not sure what I'm going to do for a grip, but I don't think it will be exactly like yours - probably more along the lines of a standard AR grip. Nice setup! Keep us posted - I can't wait to see what my gun's going to look like! |
Thanks |
Let me be the first to commend you on your excellent taste in weaponryhe |
Picked up a grip today, so it looks like mine is going to be a Houge Monogrip. www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merchant.ihtml?pid=156&lastcatid=16&step=4 What are you doing for a buffer spring / plunger? |
I got them from RRA when I ordered the extension tube, I just didn't put them in the picture. I'm just waiting on some small parts from Bushmaster, but it looks like UPS delivered my stuff to someone else. They say they left it under the mat on the front porch, only I dont't have a mat on the front porch ![]() I sure this will take a while to clear up. |
I feel for you Bro, Although, I can't conceive how an upper would make a good bong Obviously, I'm out of touch, and that's, a GOOD THING On an upbeat note, UPS has contacted me, they were very apologetic. They said it would be handled. Not wanting to wait, I got the parts elsewhere. Sandblasted them all today When the KG Kote get in next week, I'll be ready. I talked to Joe Fazio, at KG Kote. He is really concerned about getting the Foliage Green color just right!! He seems, like a consummate perfectionist!! Too few companys are willing to go the extra mile to ensure their products are up to specs!! I'm always happy to wait for quality!! On another note, Go George!! Go England!! |
| I haven't even finished my first build and I'm already looking for parts for my second. You pretty much have my second build layed out in front of you, minus the same optics. Except I was gonna go for the .308. Don't know what barrel length you went with but I was gonna go for 24". Not that I'm about to start, considering I'm still on the first one, but I am up in the air between the Vtac handguard you got and this one from Superior Weapon Systems. |
Man, that's an awesome handguard! My only concern would be that it's only 12 1/2" long. If you go with a 24" barrel, you'll have a lot of extra length there. I think I would go with the VTAC for your long gun, and go with the SWS for a carbine build - my .02... |
You're the "shit" Bro, We're on the same wave length ![]() What's the barrel going to be? I sandblasted parts on Saturday and today I got the parts for my airbrush. I'm stoked Tomorrow I'll be Barbequing meat and baking metal I never thought I'd say that, putting gun pieces in the oven, what a concept ![]() If I don't drink too much beer afterward, I'll post some more pics. Y'all be safe tomorrow |
Barrel will be a 18" SS Douglas Air-gauged SPR profile with a 1/8 twist. No provisions for comp/flash; standard target crown. Turned by the fine folks at Compass Lake Engineering. Have a JPE adjustable gas block and fire control package coming. RRA lower internals. Man, I can't wait. Have a happy, safe 4th! |
That is a cool loking handguard!! FYI: I just measured my full lengh V-Tac. With the extension nut attached it measures 12.5" so either way your going to have the same amoung of barrel hanging out. The one quality of the V-Tac that sold me was the fact that you can put rails where you want them!! Also, I've spent a lot on this rifle and the V-Tac, even with some rail kits, is still half the price of the one your looking at. Either way both are good tubes It's your rifle, what ever make you happy |
Holy cow! You're right! I *ass-u-me-d* the VTAC was longer - it seemed longer, but Turn-Key is right - they're about the same length. (You probably knew that!) I have to say, I was really impressed with the heft and quality of the VTAC. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. But - like the man says - whatever makes you happy is the right one for you. |
| I agree the longer the better for the 24" barrel. I haven't found a handguard longer than 12.5" But I don't know all of them. As I build more ARs I want ean one different. I don't see the reason for have 3x M4s or 3x A2s that are all the same thing. But thats just me. I am thinking .458 SOCOM SBR for the third build. I think this is about to become my addiction, and I've not even finished one yet. I could see this being a real problem. I also like this one from Badger. My current one will have a YHM Specter quad rail. I like the setup you have picked for yours because like you, it will only have a bipod attached to the rail. I don't see the reason for having a light w/ a scope. The SWS is kinda expensive considering I don't really need all the rails. It just looks cool. How about you just sell me yours when you are done building it! What lower, upper, barrel, bolt and carrier did you go with? |
The handguard from Badger looks great too - reminds me of an FAL handguard, and I love FALs! In fact I'm patiently waiting for a SA58 FAL from DSA... I paid just over 1000 a couple of months ago when I ordered it - now the web site says 1595! I think my AR build is gonna be a keeper - at least for a while. For upper/lower I went with Mega. I was just going to get a Mega M4 flat top upper, but when it got here, the finish is quite a bit different than the BM lower I have on another gun, so I went ahead and ordered the matching lower. I have a Douglas air-gauged 18" SS barrel on order from Compass Lake Engineering, and bought the matched bolt to go with it. I'll use a spare (new) carrier I have left over from a parts kit I bought from Sarco. I believe it's Colt, but there are no markings to prove it. I've stared at it from all angles side-by-side with my BM carrier, and I can see no difference. My original thinking was to go budget on everything except the barrel, but a few high-end parts crept in! :) |

It's a collar for an Ops Inc Suppressor. I hope to get one in the next year or two, or three link |
Haven't had it to the range yet. I did load some 69gr HPBT for it. I'll post something when once I get it to the range. |
You'll get there soon enough - it's a great looking AR! I'm making progress - still need my barrel, but everything else is pretty much in place. Ordered scope rings last weekend from snipercountry px; Scope Rings - waiting for those too...30 rd mag clears ground with legs fully extended, but I'll probably go for straight 10 or 20 rd mags.
