I am just starting my first ever build. I have the LPK and will be picking up my stripped lower today (this afternoon). Where I am getting stuck is exactly what upper I want to use. This rifle is going to be dedicated for a medium range gun, for hunting/targeting. I know for sure I want a flat top upper, with atleast a 20 inch barrel. the barrel has to be black (coated, not Stainless) and I want a free float hand gaurd.

I know DPMS makes something in the ball park, but who else can I choose from.
Who is going to be the best bang for my buc
Who is going to be the fastest to get one in when I can actually get the upper.

Or, is it simpler and faster to get a kit and build the entire upper?

Thanks,

dsmitty

I would say to try Del Ton or BCM. They are both sight sponsors and will have what you are looking for. Post pics when you get it finished.

Look no further than BCM. Del-Ton doesn't even compare.

Well yes, but he didn't specify his budget. I gave him two mid-level options that would suit his needs.

The entire 20" rifle kit with chrome lined barrel and YHM lightweight freefloat rail are only $618 by my calculations.

Don't go over 20" if your using this as a hunting rifle.  My first AR was a Bushy Varminter with the 24" barrel.  Anything over 20" gets to be too long and heavy.  With that said, I now have two 16" carbines to choose from as my go-to rifles.  They are MUCH easier and nicer to carry around.  My bushy is pretty much my designated bench and plinking rifle.

Also, check out Spike's complete uppers, not too much more than what you are looking to spend.

Since you're in Ohio, check out Tony's Custom Uppers. He can put togather whatever you want.
