Guys,
I may have a problem. I put my LMT upper on my LMT PWA lower, and screwed in the RRA 6 pos. stock and hogue grip. The rear takedown pin won't come out , and has to be lightly hammered into position.  I looked at the assembly pics here at AR15, and the pin that goes into the hole to stop the rear takedown pin doesn't have a "sharpened" tip on it. Mine does. There are divots on the RTDP that catch this pin as well. I think that's what holds it up and catches it. What's the deal with this. How am I supposed to field strip my rifle to clean it? The rear take down pin gets stuck. What do I do? All the springs and pins are in the right place. I'm stumped.

The detent shouldn't be pointy (maybe just slightly rounded). It is not uncommon to have to tap in the Takedown Pin though, at least at first until things loosen up. If you can get the detent out, you can use a file to flatten off the point until its to your liking. Oh, and double-check you didn't use the Safety/Selector Detent by mistake (its pointy, with a rim at the blunt end)... that would be bad.

You need to pull the receiver extension and remove the rear take down pin.

Once the detent is in hand, use 400 sandpaper and rub the tip on it to loose the sharp point before reinstalling it.

Or, as other's will point out,

Use a nylon punch to drift the rear take down over a few times.  These repeatable events will eventually wear the detent tip down, and allow you to drift the take down pin by hand after a while. But, not knowing how firm the detent is retained in the take down pin, you may just end up cracking the receiver at the detent channel.

Roger that, I checked and re-checked to make sure that the safety detent wasn't in the wrong place. I've broken it all down for comparison several times.  I'll try filing it tonight.  It was in the lower receiver when I got it. Weird. I thought it was lost, but noticed it in the receiver.

I had the same problem at one time.  Upon closer inspection of the detent pin with a magnifying glass I could see that the deten pin head wasn't smooth and round.  More like sharp and jagged.  It looked as it a part of the tip sheared off (like a pice of chipped ice).  I turned the pin around to the other round smooth side and now it works fine.

I tried filing the thing, but it is pretty strong metal. The file I used barely did anything. I'll get a better file tomorrow.  The selector switch was kinda loose too, so I put a tiny piece of plastic down in the handguard to support the spring and it helped. I'm still not entirely satisfied with the action of the selector. I have a very definitive opinion on how it should feel based on how the M16 felt in the Army.  It's closer in any case.

Thanks fo the advice all.
