Here's my creation for mounting a tape switch for my DBAL.  I wanted a clean, flat surface with no holes in order to use the 3M automotive tape to mount it.  This is what I came up with:

The switch is going to be mounted between the 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock rail, near the gas block.  I figure what better material than the heat shield from a set of regular hand guards.

Pounded flat with a hammer

Cut

Cut some more

And some more.

Check fit, bend, and mark where the hole goes.

Center punch and drill hole

Make final cut, clean and round the edges.

Notch URX 3.1 rail cover and install

Apply 3M automotive tape to switch

Done.

If its only attached at the one end wouldn't it vibrate when you move with it.  Or make a tinking sound?  Why didn't you attach it a both ends?

No.  The back edge is rolled over slightly so it tightens against the rail as you tighten the screw.  Not sure how else to explain it.

I like it, pretty creative use of materials you had laying around.

How do you like using the laser on the side?
I'm currently trying to figure out where I want to put my IR OTAL and keep thinking about side mounting it.

I like it on the side.  If it was an inline laser, I'd try to keep it at 12 o'clock, but with the offset it's not going to line up with the barrel no matter where you put it.

Have you tried putting that switch at the 4:30 position so you can turn on both light and laser at the same time?

I'm debating getting the URX3.1 and this is really helping.

Not really.  I only use the IR laser, not the visible.  When running NV, the IR laser is the primary sighting system, so it pretty much gets turned on and left on, accomplished by a double tap of the tape switch.

ETA:  You won't regret the URX 3.1.

Here you go.  Made a couple changes since original post.  Refinished the can in FDE C-Series Cerakote, and moved the DBAL to 12 o'clock and further back to balance the rifle better.
