Hey all- New to the forum and glad to be here.

I am starting a build on my first AR- I've shot many, siblings own a few... But I've always wanted to build one and so it's time to, dare I say, Pull the Trigger.

Going for a low-middle end build, it's actually going to be a gift for my girl (she recently got into firearms, Finally and we have been doing pistols, but I wanna step up our rifle game)

Not doing anything over the top but I wanted some feedback on what my plans are, in case I am making some bad decisions; I've rebuilt motors so I am sure I can handle this... just want to avoid any potential mistakes or mismatches while I familiarize myself with the platform.

It is going to be a range rifle, for fun and learning to shoot 300 yards or so.

okay- enough of that, next is my parts list.

-I have a Billet up and lower- 7075, nice set from my LGS. No forward assist or dust cover on the upper. Mil-spec thread on buffer for lower.
-I also picked up an ALG defense mil spec trigger / LPK (wasn't sure on this and impulse bought it, Thoughts?)

For furniture I am going to give ATI a shot... I know they are not super fancy, but again it's my girls range rifle. She has shown concern about recoil so I was gonna make it a soft shooter.
-Ati tactile stock w/ recoil pad + mil spec buffer tube
-Scorpion x2 recoil grips
-6 sided mid length (9") forend

For the upper
-Rainier BCG Match Grade Nickel Boron
-Rainier Medcon 16" barrel
-Rainier / Mega slide lock Charging Handle
-either BCM or Rainier Low profile Gas block
-Rainier RAC compensator
-Diamondhead Premium Aluminum flip up sights, front and rear

No optics for now, just gonna run iron sights and add optics later.

that about covers it....  Thoughts?

The main thing I've been having a hard time deciding is a 16"/18" barrel with mid length gas or a full 20" with Rifle length- But I am really leaning towards the mid-length system I need to be talked out of it for any reason... I feel like the shorter barrel would be easier for the lady to handle.

I want to make sure I'm not overlooking or messing anything up with my blueprints.

Thanks anyone experienced for your input

I think ATI furniture is a good quick way to ugly up a rifle.

Other than that I'd say you're on the right path.
Stick with the mid length gas and a pencil profile barrel (16"). H2 buffer and a recoil pad.
If it seems like it doesn't want to run in this config, try a muzzle break that creates more back pressure.

I tried the diamond head sights and I hated them.
I like the HK style folding front sight that Midwest industries makes instead. Pair that up with rear sight of your choice and you have a winner.

ATI. Good list of parts to will like the alg lpk the trigger is much better than your average mil spec trigger. You can't go wrong with the rainier parts and barrels it will be a accurate rifle. I would go 16 with a mid length gas system. If your goal is a soft shooter you may want to look into a adjustable gas block. Do some searches and read about the benifits. I prefer a slr gas block for the adjustable.

thanks a lot for confirming the gas system and barrel length guys!

So is the ATI a crappy product? Reason I ask is she picked it out and its for her... she liked the look of the 6 sided rail they do. She wanted sleek and not entirely tactical.
But if it's just crap, I'll talk her into something else. In the research I've done it didn't seem like it was horribly quality... but I agree, not my personal look.

good to know about the ALG- that's why I impulse bought it, the LGS I go to said it was a good trigger- when I looked it up online others said the same, but some said the LPK that comes with it isn't very good... Should I consider getting a different LPK?

I know you get these stupid questions a lot... thanks for your time.

If you plan on putting optics for longer range shooting, you may want to look at a 18" barrel in Wylde chamber.

ALG also makes their EMR rails for something that's sleek and not too "tacticool"-- top notch quaity (with that Geissele pedigree) and it even comes in purple if she likes it.

I just don't like the look of ATI stocks can't speak for their quality. I highly doubt that the lpk from alg is bad they do not make bad parts of any kind never seen their lpk though just love their triggers. Take a look at slr rifle works rails if your looking sleek. They are really nice.
