Heres a deal for you .308 gurus, 1000rds in 200rd battle packs, old ammo though 70s 80s production, only $139.97. They also sell other surplus ammo and equipment but they are kind of high with their prices.

Has anyone tried the .308 Portugese (FNM) ammo from the Sportsmans Guide or AIM?

Thinking about buying some for my Remington 700 ...

I have shot quite a bit of 1980 Portugese and it has chrono'd about 2713 fps from my 20 " Saiga 308AK.

I have not had any problems with it.

Siggy,

my father shoots the Portugese .308 in his M1A. It shoots good and is really clean stuff. I've tried it once in my Browning A-Bolt Medallion as well. Didn't test for actual accuracy, was just *plinking* with it. It's definately loaded "warm" to say the least.. my rifle had quite a bit more "Bang!" than my handloads. (Such as a *case full* of 4831 and 180gr sp's.)

As a rule, I don't recommend shooting surplus 7.62 in bolt actions, because of a bad experience I had with Venezualen (sp?) surplus. It was headstamped "Cavim" I believe. Have heard bad about the ammo since then, but anyway it locked the bolt shut on my A-Bolt, and had several "sticky bolts" as well. I stopped all together. Not worth damaging the rifle to save a few bucks. Besides it's not as accurate as good commercial ammo.

YMMV

This is the advice I've heard concerning interchangebility between .308 Win and 7.62 NATO.  7.62 NATO should not be used in rifles chambered for .308 Win because of possible length tolerances differ between the two.  The overall length of a loaded 7.62 NATO cartridge can somewhat longer and still be within NATO spec, hence 7.62 NATO chambered firearms have slightly longer throats.  Pressure wise, don't load commercial .308 hunting loads in 7.62 NATO chambered guns, the pressure can be greater in the commercial load under SAAMI standards.
