| I just ordered two of the $99 NIB bolt carriers from AIM. I also just received my 18" bull barrel from WOA a few days ago for a varmint build. I ordered the matching headspaced bolt to go with it. Do you guys see any issues/advantages/disadvantages to running the NIB carrier with the non NIB bolt? |

I have a 24 WOA barrel. I like to reload for it. You can tell that it is headspaced .001 over because the brass does not take much to resize. On a side note I had a job interview with John years ago. For what it's worth, I bought the same $99 NiB BCG from Aim.. Tossed the bolt in spare parts bin and use the bolt that came with my Shilen matched Bolt/ 223 barrel. I have been debating all night whether I do the same thing for my shilen Grendel build. Thinking I may just use a "Mil-Spec" carrier from PSA that has been sitting in my parts bin. Do I really need one to be shiny for a Grendel? Maybe I will wait to see how it fires first. Anyway, good choice for Carrier. FWIW, the 99 one is finished great on the outside. They saved money by not finishing the inside of the back of the carrier. Lots of machine marks but that is no worry. No function there. Well worth the 99. Good luck! Quoted:

You should be able to use either with no issues. Try the NIB bolt in your barrel when together. I have used several Aim NIB bcg's with nothing but praise for them. Their Budget bcg looks almost as nice as their lifetime NIB bcg just without the logo Hmm, the $99 NIB BCG I got from AIM has logo on it. Does that mean it has lifetime warranty? |
| Because it takes a little while for bolt and extension to "marry" (wear in together) I'd try both and see if there are any differences in function or accuracy. If no difference then go all NiB. If you see any advantage to the "matched" bolt then stick with that. Can't really go wrong either way. |
| I just ran my brand new PSA middy upper today with a new AIM NiB $99 bcg. I run minimal lube (bolt, rails, CH) and it ran like a champ. Cleanup was not as easy as I had expected (carbon still stuck and needed to be scraped off. I thought it would wipe off, but no.), and I think I'll try melonite next time, but it did run great. $99 is a fantastic deal on those things. |
