All I have so far is the lower... DMPS with Magpul ACS & DPMS LPK.

I was looking at the BCM 16" standard lightweight barrel & JP VTAC handguards.

I do want a 16" barrel mid length system.

I do not want to buy a complete upper.

Would like your opinions for a barrel, handguards, stripped upper & sights.

Is there really a big difference between stripped uppers?

All the parts you seek are available at BCM.

No there is not a big difference between stripped uppers. I've used BCM and Stag branded uppers, both Cerro Forge, but have had no issues with Cardinal uppers either.

I hate to break it to you but that setup is not all that light.... I recently did a build w/ Bushmaster superlight 16", vortex FH, std upper, BCM BCG, std charging handle, 12" JP VTAC, no sights yet = 4lbs 1.2oz.

If you truly want a lightweight built I'd ditch the ACS as well as the JP VTAC in favor of an M4 or CAR stock and CAR or MOE handguards.

Thanks for your responses.  I really like the free float tubes.  I don't like the look of the CAR or the MOE handguards. Guess i'll just build it so I like the way it looks.  I really wanted to know about the stripped uppers.

Just buy a BCM upper receiver. Outstanding quality & the price is right.

to save weight adco will provide a 9mm upper- no forward assist- with a hole for the gas tube.
