The only markings are: Barrel: radially stamped near muzzle "5.56 NATO 1:7" length ~10 inches "SS55" bottom of takedown (rear) lug There is a bolt with a flat spot threaded into the rear of the receiver [] no ejection port cover [] no forward assist [] no slot for charging handle [] a "standard" BCG will fit and lock It obviously is not a complete upper, but I would like to use it if it's viable. Thanks in advance for any and all information.     |
| Looks like all you need is the charging handle and screw, assuming the bolt is complete. I bought one like it from BCA (7.62x39) but never fired it. I decided I didn't like the charging handle arrangement where you have to remove it to take the bolt carrier out. Its like you want to use at least blue Loctite on it to prevent it from flying off, but that would just make it harder to remove when you need to access the bolt or just clean the gun. |

I bought one but ended up selling it. The side charging handle screws into the bolt carrier. You can't remove the BCG without unscrewing the handle. Its kind of a half-assed idea. However, I later went back and got one of their conventional uppers in 7.62x39 and its good - very accurate. I did break a firing pin today and ordered a couple of 'enhanced' ones for it. Sure, its viable assuming you're willing to by the special BCG and charging handle with screw. They are only getting about $200 for that upper, so I would be surprised if it wouldn't be cheaper to not buy that one and just get a new one complete. My recommendation would be to go with the traditional upper. You can flip the upper up out of the lower and have the bolt in your hand in seconds, and there's no need for tools and no screw to lose in the field. |
