Was just at a local gun store looking at ARs, when I spotted on the wall an early AR15, date of manufacture 1968. Seemed to be in good/very good condition, had the 3 prong flash hider.

Price is $2,400 and change. To much? To little?

Are you looking for something to collect or to shoot?

That's at least in the right ballpark compared to what I've seen around here.

Unless you want to collect some farely rare rifle buy or build another rifle.  You could probably assemble a new shooter for $600 or less.  If you want to collect do your homework and know about the particular rifle you intend to buy.

Will do both, collect and shoot. I know that I can build a retro, but to me anyway, not the same as owning the original. The reason I asked here is that i have yet to see an early Ar for sale, both online, and in person.

That price is a bit out of my range, and thanks for the replies. Now to read up on building one from scratch!

just saw in sportsman's guide  a colt factory original used m16A1 for $649.97 if you are not a member.  However, this is minus the lower receiver, keeps s.g. legal i guess.
