Hello, please forgive my ignorance with 9mm  AR15's.  I have built many AR15's just not any 9mm and I hear these can be a different beast.  I am using a Mega Machine Shop 9mm lower receiver.   What would be the best complete upper to pair it with. Does anyone else have a Mega 9mm lower and what upper did you use or recommend. Is there any tips or suggestions that would help in the build?  All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  D.J.

Just some small things. If you don't have a ramped bolt, use a standard rounded hammer. Notched hammers do not play well with them. Most importantly, if you like your bolt catch, limit the over travel of your bolt. Quarters work as well as specifically made buffer spacers and/ or buffers. Lastly, get a can for it

I never thought of the quarter idea. Cool.

Ramped bolts and round top non-9mm specific hammers are the way to go. The less-sharp transition of the ramped bolt will also help with fire control pin hole wear in your lower.

And yes - a suppressor is nice. :-)

side note - be aware that many places use an odd 1/2x36 thread on 9mm AR barrels. This is to prevent someone from threading a .223/5.56 muzzle device on and wondering why it gets blown downrange on their first shot.

On my pistol build, the bolt had about 1.5 inches of travel before it was stopped by the bolt catch. I kept adding quarters until it was approximately  .5 inch IIRC, can you imagine the pressure put on the catch with that much travel before it hits it? And to answer the upper question, both mine are spikes, one with 5.5 tri-lug and  a 10.5 with .5x28. The three lug uses a ramped adco bolt and the 10 has a spikes non-ramped bolt, I shall be fixing that soon. Both spikes stt2 buffers and springs, one with a spikes 9mm buffer spacer, the other with quarters.
