As the subject reads, I am looking to make the jump to some pro-level optics for my weapons. At least 1-2 of them are going to wear RDS, and I have already made the decision to go with aimpoint over eotech. Now that those decisions have been made, I need to decide which aimpoint to actually buy. I seem to have 3 choice.
Aimpoint PRO from Palmetto - 410 Aimpoint Comp ML2 + accessory package - 450 Aimpoint Comp M4 - 470 (Botach special + SWFA 110% price match which I've already gotten approved) Can someone please give me the pro's and con's of each of these. To me the real choice seems to be whether or not I want to pay the extra 60 (actually 120 since I will be buying two) to upgrade to the killflash and slightly better emitter on the Comp M4. The ML2 appears to be right in the middle, however, so I didn't want to count it out. I can afford either, but prefer to conserve funds if possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. |

Of the choices you have listed I would go w/either the Pro if on a budget or the CompM4 if not. The Pro is a great optic but w/the CompM4 you get what is arguably the most rugged Aimpoint currently made w/nearly 3x the Pro's battery life and it uses common AA batteries. Personally, I prefer the CompM4 for my needs but YMMV. HTH... Tomac ETA: Great catch on the SWFA Botach price match, wish I'd thought of that! STG-556 w/Botach CompM4: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/Tomac/ResizeofAimpointCompM4012.jpg The M4 is great, but I dont care for the mounting system. Too many times Ive seen the sight come loose off its mount. For this I prefer the M2/M3 models with seperate Larue or ARMS mounts. |

Sorry to hijack but are you saying the QRP2 mount comes loose from the rifle or that the mount comes loose from the optic? Thx!... Tomac |

Tomac Yes, I have seen rifles in the desert (carried around daily) that had the riser piece come loose from the actual mount. So without having a proper loc-tite job or using metal wire, guys would have the sight fall off the top of the mount. This is why I prefer a seperate 30mm ring on my personal Aimpoints. |

I always loctite my M4 mount bolts and so had not experienced that particular problem. My only complaint w/30mm ring Aimpoints is that sufficiently strong impacts to the optic can cause it to shift/rotate in the ring. Tomac |

Enough leverage could move it. I bet your STG works better than mine. I got one of the early models in the pelican case, its the extraction/ejection issue. Still havent sent it for repair. |
| I have the Pro and the price from Palmetto is good, thats where I bought mine from. The M4 is gonna be heavier but the battery is super common and lasts 8 yrs left on. The Pro's battery is usually ordered by necessity and lasts 3 yrs (which is no small wonder) and it will be lighter. Both have the 2 MOA dot which I prefer to the 4 MOA. Personally I would go to the M4 had the Botach deal been offered a little earlier. But I have no real regrets about the PRO. |
