This barrel is being offered in a trade. The owner received it in a trade himself, so he doesn't know much about it either. We were both hoping the community could help us determine the manufacturer or any other pertinent information.

It is roll marked "USA" and "032515"

Length: 10.5"
Cal: .223 Wylde
Twist: 1:8

Moreover, I was planning to install a 5.56 NATO barrel with a 1:7 twist. If I'm using 55 or 62 grain 5.56 NATO ammo, will reliability or performance be compromised or measurably effected by using a .223 Wylde barrel?

Thanks!

Pickett's Mill Armory 10.5"

The barrel is a $110 barrel new from manufacture.

In layman's terms, Wylde is a hybrid between .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO. Wylde can shoot both .223 and 5.56 safely.

It certainly looks similar to the one on the product page. Not that I doubt you, but what indicator on the barrel indicates that manufacturer? It says
"M4 Feed Ramp
Made from bar stock
4140 Chrome molly stress relieved" and also non-chrome lined.

I'm regrettably a metallurgical novice, so what does that mean about the mean about the riflings' ability to resist the heat, stress, and corrosive factors of the barrel passing through, in laymans' terms?

non chrome lined barrels will wear our faster. (non chrome lined barrels with some type of melonite treatment will not wear out as fast as chrome lined. Given the price, PMA barrels are not melonited.)

bar stock - exactly what it means. a round bar of steel.

stress relieved: I'm assuming the bar stock was heated up to a specified temp and air cooled to align the molecules for a better bond, which would prevent stress fractures in weak points where the molecules are not well aligned.

Got the metallurgical aspect of it. Would you use a barrel without any sort of lining? I assume I'll get a full life out of it if I use decent ammo and scrub it out real well after each use.

Why do you think it's from Pickets Mill Armory?

Fouling really isn't the problem with the barrel wear. How much stuff gets pushed down the barrel will wear it out. You should get a good amount of life span out of it. Maybe 10k rounds.

Different factors will determine the life span. Obviously mag dump after mag dump after mag dump repeatedly will wear it out really quick with a short round count. Chrome lined barrels will have a higher life span because chrome is hard and doesn't wear as fast. Chrome lined barrels also clean easier than non chrome lined barrels, and resists corrosion.

You don't necessarily NEED to scrub it after every use. I honestly don't know of any .223 ammo that is corrosive.

because it looks just like a PMA barrel from the profile to the engraving and engraved areas.
