I purchased my upper from Texas Star Group about 12 years ago. I specified that I wanted a 20" stainless Bbl, fluted for the entire length of the Bbl. Donna told me that the only company that made a Bbl like that at the time was RRA. Well yesterday on a whim I pulled it out and noticed that there are no markings on the Bbl. No twist rate, no manufacturer. This might be because of the fluting, but I took a flashlight and checked underneath the handguard. I could see most all the way around and the only markings I can see are what looks like a small S on the raised part of the fluting under the handguard and what looks like the number 8 cut in half vertically.

I can't post pics right now but I've given as detailed a description as I can. I've tried looking up Texas Star Group but I don't think they are around anymore. I do remember her saying it was a RRA with a Wylde chamber though. I would just like to verify the manufacturer some way. I called RRA this morning and the guy I spoke to said they have only been making stainless fluted barrels for about 5 or 6 years now.

ETA : If anyone has Donna's e-mail or contact info I'd appreciate it.

Back then, RRA marked their barrels on top of the chamber with 3-character codes.  Mine says N 9 A - that means NATO chamber, 1:9 twist and alloy (not stainless) material.

Look DIRECTLY over the chamber, just a bit ahead of the flange on the barrel.  You should be able to see it ahead of a standard barrel nut.

Thank you. This has by far been the most useful information I've gotten. The only problem is that I can't get access to that part of the barrel because I loc-tited the quad rail on. It's one of the first generation YHM rails that had issues with spinning on the nut.

If there are slots in the rail, shine a light through and look UNDER the gas tube.  That's where you should see the code.
