Hey guys, looking for some feedback.

So I was at the range the other day and was shooting my AR. I have the older CompM sitting on top of an ARMS #22M68 on top of a Swan Sleeve Std. After sending about 400 rounds downrange through the course of 3-4 hours, towards the end of the session, the dot in my CompM started to fade out until finally it was just not there. At first I thought the battery must have died. So I checked my range kit to see if I remember to bring a spare, which I did not. (lesson learned either which way.) I went on to shoot the rest of my session with my BUIS, figuring I'd replace the battery with one that I have at home.

So when I get home, just out of curiosity, I switch back on the CompM and lo and behold, it's working again. So my questions are:

1- is this common after 400 +or - rounds with the older CompM

2- could it be the heat that did this?

3- or is this something electronic?

4- and lastly, what course of action would some of you with more experience take with this situation?

I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks for taking the time.

Try replacing the battery.  I've seen dead batteries that, if left unused, will recharge for brief amounts of time, but they will go dead again in short order.  If you replace the battery and the dot still comes and goes, it's a sight issue and should be repaired under warranty.

Thanks friend. I guess this'll be an excuse to throw another few hundred rounds downrange.

I mean, I knew that the CompM had a shorter battery life, but sheesh, if this is just a battery issue, considering this one was new... perhaps I should I spring for the M2 huh?

I'll report back later and let ya know.

Thanks again.

The older compMs had a ground wire problem, they would turn off and on as the wire worked its way loose. Replace it with a fresh battery and see what happens next time you go to the range.

This sounds most like a battery issue.  You don't say how old the battery is or how many total hours of use it has endured.  Most battery types will "recover" to some degree if left unused after a discharge which occurs over a relatively short time (as opposed to a very long, slow discharge".

Completely OT:

The thread starter has the best board name I've seen in a loooong time!

If I was from Maryland, I'd steal it ! (In true Agnew tradition, of course.)

I had a somewhat similar problem not too long ago with my Comp M XD.   The dot would flicker and fade whenever the rifle recoiled.  Replaced the battery and same thing happened.  I then noticed that if I rocked the on/off knob against it's axis it would do the same flicker and fading, so I took off the knob with a small allen wrench and then tightened the flat nut that is underneath the knob.  That seems to have taken care of my problem so far.  HTH
