While attempting to remove the old acog mount to replace it with the LaRue mount, I stripped the screw from the stock ACOG mount. It is one of the 2 flat head screws that keep the ACOG secured to the mount.

The first one came off just fine, and second one wouldn't budge. The screw head is stripped pretty badly. What are my options to get this screw out so I can get the LaRue mount on? Any help would greatly appreciated. I feel pretty stupid right now.

Take a dremel and cut a new slot into the screw. Remove.

I want to give this a try, but the screw is recessed somewhat. I think manuvering a dremel might be a little tricky. Any other ideas?

Go to your local hardware store.  they are bound to have something designed with this problem in mind.

Thread Hijack:

Anyone know what size allen key is needed for removing a TA-60 mount?

Get some JB Weld and glue the screwdriver to the screw. It works most of the time.  Jack

This sounds like an idea! LaRue supplies replacement screws so that won't be an issue.

you need a screw extractor tool.  this is about 5 bucks.  it is a tapered reverse threaded pin that you tap into a hole you very carefully drill into the screw you are trying to remove.  They used to be available at sears.  tap in and screw out the reverse thread tightens as the screw you want to come out loosens.   heat screw a little will help also

I saw these at a Hardware store yesterday. I though about it. Do you know what size I would need?

the smallest one I would think.   just drill a very small pilot hole first and tap in

Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up putting the mount in a vise and hit the corner of the screw with a punch to get it to rotate.

The LaRue is now on, and will probably never come off.
