I need a mid length free float tube, something that will work well with a pinned a2 front sight.

I am thinking probably just a round tube, can't imagine the need for a top rail if I don't need to mount and BUIS, but I want to be able to mount a flashlight, that will probably be the only addition
provided I have a sling mounting option. So far the free float I like best is the UTG pro super slim, it doesn't require over torquing to line up, the mounting system seems extremely strong. I can place rails where needed, and it doesn't weight a ton.(I really don't like the comparable options such as MI or Troy)

I am wondering if I could cut down clutter further with a round tube, I was looking at Nordic components but the rail sections cost an arm and a leg for what they are, I had also looked at JP carbon tubes but I have read they may not be the best for a hard use rifle. the last rail I was looking at looks really nice (DTech) but the weight is a little more than even the UTG which has rails.

Am I just not gonna save much weight by going with a round tube other than a carbon fiber one? Is the UTG a good way to go? Anyone have the UTG with a pinned fsb I see a picture of?

I really wish I could get one of the tubes use one the Mossberg mmrs, darn those things look nice

Give me the good word guys, simple, strong/durable, lightweight, slim, and able to mount a light and a sling(I like standard bottom front sling mounts for African carry)

BCM KMR would seem to top the list there for strong and lightweight, although i'm not versed enough to know if length will mate up with the 10" rail currently available (9" is on the way).  the keymod allows you to attach a small rail section or a direct flashlight mount like the thorntail keymod.

or if you can find one in stock anywhere without a "2 week" (really 6-9 months or more) wait, the noveske nsr is quite nice.

Just an idea. Seems simple.

If you're trying to save some coin, the UTG pro slim is very lightweight and durable. I currently own 3 of them. And it's very easy on the wallet

that utg was on my last upper, I did really like it and I bought it even while not trying to save money lol, it was just the one I liked the most, I just dont need a top rail this time, it might still be the one I end up with though.

The nice thing about these types is they are a nice size for the hand.  The rail gives space for the gas tube.  A simple round is gonna be 2", which makes them fatter than I like.

Well if you don't need a top rail, look into the nordic defense tubes. I love the one on my varmint rifle.

Well, it's not round, but I like the VLtor CASV-M. Uncluttered, works with stock barrel nut and delta ring, and the continuous top rail is a little nicer for mounting scopes than a cantilevr mount IMO.

Bought the Midwest Ind Gen 2 SS yesterday.  Really like the feel of it, and it comes with 3 small pieces of rail to put where you want.

From a pure weight standpoint, if you want light and smooth and not terribly pricy look into the AP Customs Carbon Fiber.  They sell a standard version that has no top rail, or (for a little more) a "tactical" version that does.  They are the same HG, just with and without the top rail attached. I bought one as in another post someone from Adams Arms said it would work with their new XLP, but it didn't, hence my MI purchase yesterday. Lancer makes some nice smooth ones as well.

If you want best of the best the Precision Reflex carbon fiber tubes were what came standard on the Mark 12s, and you can get them in colors or raw carbon fiber.  If I ever do a "money is no object" build that's how I go, they are damned proud of their work.

If weight is your primay concern then a full tube is not the way to go.  A tube with lots of air space weighs far less than one that is solid with all that material still there.  Also doesn't allow air to cool the barrel nearly as well.  Just things to consider.

Deep:  Check out SLR's Solo 3-gun model, in several sizes.  The only fixed rail section is at 12 oclock up front, right where a flashlight is normally attached.  The octagon shaped tube has keymod openings at 3, 6 and 9 oclock.  Standard QD sling swivels interoperate with all the keymod holes, however, they swivel freely 360 degrees.

For my own "African" carry sling, I use a little keymod QD mount at 6 oclock on my SLR handguard that limits the amount of swivel movement, something very useful with a sling.  When at the local rifle range, I use that same 6 oclock position to attach a short rail section for my UTG bipod.  That's the beauty of the keymod system, you can zap one accessory off and another on in seconds, no backing nuts needed. good luck - CW

I actually just removed the pictured UTG from my SBR for the BCM KMr and I have the UtG on the EE. It's a nice lite rail  that just works

I like some one those options, it seems more manufactures are doing a 10 inch rail instead of a 9...which I am trying to stay pinned fsb. I have heard the clocking on the nordics is a pain in the neck otherwise I was looking very closely at the one, the ap customs looked good as well but I was worried it might not be as durable as I need

From handling the AP Custom I can tell you the tube itself is easily as stiff as any metal ones I've handled.  The material is about an 1/8" thick.  You'd really have to put it through some hell to damage it I think, and if CF is good enough for the Mark 12...

I'd offer to sell the one I have but a buddy decided to buy it off me...

From banging my rifle into dump barrels for the past 3 years in 3 G competition I would be interested in what you could do to tear up an AP Customs tube. Not a nick or scratch. Slick product and uses standard nut. Easy to install and remove.

well, I'm glad to hear that as I was really interested in the AP, I think that might just be the route I go!
