Came across a shop that has 2 Nightforce 5.5-22 one is x50 the other is x56. They were both manufactured in Nov 2008 according to the tag and are both Mildot. I am told they were part of a large order shipment and were two left unsold and they are willing to sell them to me at their cost @ $1,299.

My question is whether or not this is a good buy? Recogizing that they aren't new, I could save some coin.....obviously. But is here a big difference between the year models other than options like Zero stop and fast/quick turrets? Not sure, but I think like the NPR-1 from their websites since what I have is mil dot and I never leave home without at least 1 rangefinder (if not a backup one two).

I currently have a Mil-dot Leupold Mk3 3.5-10x40 with tall target turrets and dust covers which came on my new Savage 10fpxp 2 months ago and I'm tempted to do the upgrade (wish I could do a trade, but they aren't willing). However, I'm torn on whether or not this is truly a good investment ..... I would then need to sell the Leupold and the rings and with no shots likely to be taken more than 300-500 yards tops ever (yeah....I know, I say that now - but this time next year, I may regret that). The savage 10fcpxp is my first sortie into long range and I know optics are very important.

Net-net, what would you do if you were in my shoes.....should I pull the trigger and pay the price or be happy with what I have and move on? As I write this, guess there is a 3G option which is to suck it up and order an exact fit and model at a more expensive cost for what I want vs just picking up something that happens to be avail.

Thx in advance!

5-22 is a lot of scope for a 308 to 500 yards.

Its a killer deal. Just a lot of scope.

I would only want it if it has mil turrets. I can't stand if the reticle doesn't match the turrets.  I have a x56 with an NP-R1, and it is a great scope.

Two for $1299 = buy; one for $1299 = pass.

Teerex. Good point!  I will double check the reticle and turrets match mill vs moa next time I go there. I made a newbie assumption, but wasn't sure and that could come back to bite me if I go for it.

Also figure if it's a lot of scope now, it could be a long term investment.......question is if it's the right scope. I keep thinking about the NPR1 and paying several hundred more vs the more affordable sitting on the shelf waiting for me mil dot. Uugghh.
