I am having a REALLY hard time finding an optic that I like for an AR. My first issue is that I have an astigmatism so anything that is a reflex type sight is out. Aimpoint, Eotech, Trijicon RMR and all other "Red Dot" type sights look like giant blobs. The only sight that I can find that has a clear retical is a Trijicon ACOG and the Trijicon Accupoint scopes. I think this is because they are etched into the glass and are not illuminated by a laser or light reflecting off the glass. The Accupoint TR24 is at the highest reach of my budget at about $1,000 if I find a good deal. I REALLY dont want to spend that much let alone the $1300-1500 for an ACOG if I can help it.
PLEASE help with suggestions that I can find at a local Cabelas or Gun Shop as I am sick of buying scopes and returning them cause they dont work with my eyes. My Requirements: Must have a Bullet Drop and Ranging Reticle made for the .223/5.56 round. Magnification up to 4x Illuminated in such a way that it wont play havoc with my Astigmatism Be rugged enough to be banged around as this will be used in 3Gun and Tactical Carbine classes (Think ACOG abuse level) Price Point under $750 including a mount. Would like Throw Lever Mounts if possible. Thank you all so much for your input. |

Would a Leupold vx-r be durable enough for you?
http://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/vx-r-patrol/vx-r-patrol-1-25-4x20mm-30mm/ The reticle has marks every 2.5 mils when you are at 4 power. They have a few other models built on the same tube if you want different turret or reticle options. I'm pretty sure you can find a throw lever for it. |

That turrets are also true mil rad and the Firedot reticle is a very fine .3.mil, about as small as readily visible, yet not so small as to obscure small targets. It is capable of very intense full noon sunlight illumination, true red, and is fiber optic fed from the left side of the turret, so no bulging eyepiece. Also, it is motion activated and remembers its last setting. |

My PA 1-6 scope came today and I love it so far. I too have astigmatism but the lighted etched reticle is awesome. And it meets all your requirements. Check it out at primary arms' website. I was checking out the ACSS reticle on the PA scopes and was very impressed, ranging and BDC combined on the same reticle... :) |

Little scope is amazing I must admit. Quality is super. |

I have the 1-6x and the 4x with the ACSS and they are both great the 1-6x is the first generation so it doesn't light up on a sunny day but the 4x reticle lights up very well on the brightest day |

I doubt it's going to meet the OP's quest for acog durability but short of trying to tear it up it should be fine. I have the astigmatism issue myself and this scope works great for me............. I see two chevrons when i look through a trijicon tripower to give you an idea

I have had two of these and while I didn't rough them up I have seen other people post on here state that they are pretty rugged optics. In my opinion the VXR series is the best option in this price range. I am now trying out a Burris XTR 1-4x24 with ballistic gen 2 556 reticle and for me the eye box on this optic is way more forgiving. Dare I also say that the eyebox on the Burris, for me feels like it comes pretty close to my Vortex Razor HD 1-6x as far as eye relief and it's 6.0mm exit pupil goes. I can't remember the exit pupil for the Vortex? But the downside is it's going to cost a few bucks more than the Leopold VXR. They have also been discontinued and replaced with the new XTR II series but there are several vendors who still have the original XTR's in stock. Burris also builds their scope tubes a little on the thicker side for more durability. ETA:Great no BS review of the first XTR series by Hokie HERE Of course keep in mind this review is of a Gen 1 before Burris fixed the issues and came out with their Gen 2. Issues were a "not daylight bright" reticle, and battery cap. |
