Hey fellas,
I am searching for Nam period USMC pics that show gyrenes using XM177 variants.  Debating whether or not to add one to my USMC collection.  I'm pretty sure K9 units used them but I could very well be wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think the USMC used them. Most of them went to SF and SOG units. The production run on them was for only a year and a half.

Well with the lack of info that is the consensus that I'm getting.  I know they developed the M4.  The dislike of the XM177 models lead up to that.  Come to think about it...other than the M1 Carbine and M4 carbine....the Marines are a rifle bunch!!

I never saw anything like that while there, but after a very short time I stopped looking at what others carrried.

I saw one XM177 sitting in an armory at Quantico in the 90s, but it was kept with the foreign/captured weapons so I don't think it was an issue item.

Post-Nam, I believe the old M3A1 .45 SMG, aka GreaseGun was TO&E for Marine Recon Units up until the 80s sometime when some MP5s were bought.

Actually, they were pretty late in adopting the modern M4 for general issue.

What he is saying is that the carbine that eventually became the M4 is a result of a requirement set out by the Marine Corps; The Marine Corps just didn't adopted it in large numbers till much later.

Other than a few the SOG types were carrying when we were called in for extracts, I never saw any.

Thanks for the input fellas.  Yeah I'm gonna drop the pursuit on building an XM177 type for my USMC collection.  So far...there just isn't any evidence.

However, if there is anyone who stumbles upon this thread and has photos of NAM era Marines using XM carbines.....would love to see 'em!!

GySgt Ablemen is not using a Marine Corps weapon.

By the way that is the same GySgt in the famous video of a Marine chewing out a poser at the airport.
