i have a 8.5 inch ar ( troy claymore/pigtail gas tube/Aries armor reduced friction bolt / standard carbine buffer) that refuses to run anything in .223 caliber without jamming , the bolt wont close all the way or it will refuse to cycle the next round ,or  it will just close with an empty chamber. it will fire .556 all day with no issues. ive also noticed the .233 rounds after being ejected have a flat side on the neck of the casing and the .5566 does not  its also ejecting between 3-4 oclock position and the casings are hitting high on the shell deflector and lastly It apeares my gas block has forward blow by on the barrel , im not sure if this is normal or not ?

What kind, brand? Be specific. You should not have gas blow by in front of you gas block

Sounds like short stroking. I would switch the pig tail for a standard tube then report back.

I agree it sounds like short stroking.... What kind of GB do you have? Loosing gas will cause short stroking. I tried an Al GB and had the problem of escaping gas until I switched to a tight fitting steel GB.

The pigtail tube isn't doing you any favors either.

Dings on the case mouth is normal. Put the loop side of velcro as show in the pic to protect the deflector and minimize case dents. I picked up a roll of velcro up at Walmart with self stick backing.

Ditch the pig tail it is 110% pure snake oil and will cause trouble.

Looks like Strike Industries is a steel GB. Check when removing the GB if there is residue beyond a round circle directly over the barrel gas port. The GB should fit without much play. If you can see residue spread out beyond the gas port, a clamp on is a good option. I like them because they can be repositioned easily and tightens around the circumference of the barrel. It's also possible the gas port in not aligned.

If everything seems snug and aligned, check that your BCG isn't binding with the gas tube. Remove the bolt and slide it in the upper to check.

Last check how easy your bolt moves in the carrier. Sometimes they need to be manually exercised  to loosen them up when new.

I'd try the above before spending money on another GB.
