Ok I am trying to find a nice M14/M1A type rifle. I love the look of the M14 but its too damn expensive for me right now.  I would appreciate a .308 more right now than a .223 just because my brother has an .223 so I could play with that when I wanted to sicne we live together.  I want a rifle for "rather" long distance, and that is fairly accurate at those distances as well.  I tried finding the AR10 but I didn't really see anything I liked.

Any ideas please? Or maybe you know somewhere to get an M1A for under $1000??

Good luck on the "Under a $1000" thing.....I am not being a dick, that is just the way it is.

I own an M1A, nice rifle.  You would do well having 1.  Bite the bullet, save your dollars and get the one you want...not the one you can afford.  You just might have it the rest of your life, get the right one.

If you want to shoot long distances in .308 for under $1000, you should consider going with a nice bolt-action setup rather than a semiauto.

+1  You should be able to get a good heavy barrel savage model 10 in .308 with the accutrigger for around $600.  Add $400 for a good scope and mounts and you are in.

How about one of the FAL style rifles?
I don't know anything about the various models/makes, but I believe it is considered one of the most reliable battle rifles ever, and is relatively accurate.

If you want a M14/M1A platform rifle, save up and get yourself the best on the market the first time around

FN FAL

FAL Rifle

It is also sometimes called the L1A1. That is the British flavor.

It is a fine weapon.

You could also blow a lot of money on a Galil, another awesome rifle.
If you like semi-auto rifles.
