Okay so I'm not very up to date on the light world.. I've currently got a surefire 6p that's not mounted yet.. I really do not like the way the light looks, and I'd rather have LED. I've looked at the malkoff heads and such.. but they look like they throw more than spill.. I want something with a lot of spill..
So here's my requirements.. LED Lots of spill 150-250 lumens Rifle mountable Who can suggest some good lights for me? |
| When you say you do not like the way the light looks do you mean the flashlight itself or the beam it puts out? As far as lights go, the 6P is a fantastic host with lots of versatility thanks to the plethora of dropins, tail caps, mounts, etc. available. If you are ok with the 6P as a host for upgrades you have a couple of options for turning it into the weapon light you want. I think an ideal solution might be the Malkoff M60F, 235 lumens of practically pure flood and I think Elzetta still carries them. Or if you want something brighter that still has a hot spot but also plenty of spill you can look for an XM-L dropin, EDCPlus makes a quality single mode one that puts out somewhere around 500 lumens. |

I dont like the look of the flashlight housing itself.. It's a copper color (got it for 10 bucks..) almost looks like ni-b.. But the rest of my rifle is straight up black.. It just looks extremely out of place. I'll look around for videos of the M60F's light pattern and see if its something I like, Thanks so much for the info! |

That sounds like a very interesting 6P, if its a legit Surefire 6P that has merely been painted you might be able to strip it back down to the original black anodizing with lacquer thinner or acetone. Or you could pick up a similar host such as the Solarforce L2P (but I would recommend swapping over the Surefire switch as I believe it is of higher quality.) If the M60F doesn't work out you could always pick some other dropin and try adding a diffuser. Personally I am not a fan of the slip on kind and the Surefire clamp on FM34's are getting harder to find since being discontinued but you might be able to find a frosted replacement lens, or get a replacement UCL lens from flashlightlens with their Lexan diffusion film for somewhere around $8 IIRC. |

The m60f does look really nice..i might just plastidip the light.. If it has been custom cerakoted or hard anodized it might also have been bored for 18mm cells; or if it's a factory anodizing from Surefire it might be a special edition of some sort, either way it could be worth a bit of money and might be worth looking into before modifying it permanently.. |

Here is the light.

Yeah i just searched for a special edition in this color.. no such luck.. i know the previous owner had it mounted on his marine 870.. im gonna look in to it more in depth now.. good call man. |
| Why would you want more spill than what the M60/ M61 put out? I think the M60 is one of the best lamps you can buy. The 6P is a great light, if the color bothers you offer it up for a trade for a black one. I am sure someone would trade. If not buy another used one and just replace the lamp. If the budget is a bit higher I highly recommend the ElZetta M60 lights. Also check out their 1500 light mount. I have them on all my Carbines. I am working on getting the M60 lights for all of them as well. I haven't used any of my SF 952's in years now. The M60 light from ElZetta uses the Malkoff lamp that I recommended above. You can also buy different tail caps that will provide different functions so you can select what works best for you and your needs. |

I prefer spill over throw because in close quarters, a highly concentrated throw blinds the crap out of me. A nice spill that will light up all the objects in and around the spill doesnt blind me as much.. Seeing some video reviews of the malkoff M60F seem to be what I'm looking for. I'm just going to plasti dip this light, It's a little beat up.. I don't think it'd be worth a trade to anyone. If I don't like the plasti dip, all I have to do is peel it off.. The 1500 mount looks nice, But I have no permanent front sight. I have a DD 9" lite rail. I'm thinking about the DD offset flashlight mount.. It's priced right and will put the light where I want it. I just need to do some research on tail caps and pressure switches |
