Suggest ya go w/ a chrome lined barrel whichever brand you choose.

Bushmaster uses mil-spec 4150 steel whereas RRA and others are probably 4140. The Bushy will be pricier than the RRA.

As to the MB question, a 16" barrel WITH a MB on it WILL be longer than 16".

A post-ban RRA M4 16" barrel w/ the faux A2 FS on it will look like a FS, but be a hair over 16" (16.1 or so).

A post ban 14.5" M4 barrel WITH a MB permanently ATTACHED will be post ban legal and about the same length (16.1 or so), depending entirely on the choice of MB your choose.

As to the barrel profile, I like the light ones under the HGs, you should get what you want, but the WEIGHT of your rifle w/ all accessories may dictate this choice, so THINK IT OUT.

Hope this is some help,
Mike

Bushmaster makes a great M4 barrel for about $225 (includes gas tube, D-ring, etc).

RRA makes a decent M4 barrel in the same ballpark that is heavy (unlike a true M4 barrel) under the hand guards.  RRA is available either chrome lined, or chromemoly.  ADCO has chrome lined RRA M4 barrels for $195, and non-chrome for $162.

Olympic Arms makes a great SS M4 barrel that is match grade and about $155ish IIRC.

My order of preference is chrome lined first, SS second, and chromemoly last.  A 16" barrel will be longer if you put a FS or muzzle brake on the end.

If I were you, I would get a pre-ban barrel, then trim the bayonnet ears a tad, and tack weld or silver solder the brake on the end.  That way in another 4 months you can put a real FS on it.

I probably forgot to cover something, but this gives you a good idea of what is out there.

Erik, Pete there at Legal Tranfers is a good dealer and the RRA M4 your looking at is identical to the post-ban RRA I have. It's a good barrel IMO and shoots a wide variety of rounds very well.

Good Luck w/ your build,
Mike
