I just picked up a new AP4 .308 several weeks ago. First time out to the range the first 2 mags no problem then I started having FTF’s every other round I had to pull the charging handle back to load a new round but no other problems. I figured it was the mags so I did the mods. Went back today no more FTF’s but now I have multiple FTE and double feeds and the bolt did not lock back after the last round several times. Does any one know WTF is going on. I am using Winchester 147gn ammo. I want to avoid sending it back because it’s so damn accurate when it works.  I would rather try to fix it myself if I can.

That ammo sucks in my AR10T and my DPMS. I can run Fed AE308 thru them fine. IMO start reloading I can load 100 rounds for $20 and thats with a good bullets less with Win or Rem bagged bullets.

I have similar problems with my AP4.  FTF, FTE, and double feeds.  I'm using American Eagle ammo.  I only have 55 rounds through it at the moment.  Durring the 1 shot and clean break in my bolt fail to lock back many times.  I expeirenced the FTF and FTE, and DF durring the 10 shot and clean series.  Granted it isn't fully broken in to DPMS specs, I 'm getting frustrated.  hread

Sorry, I'm not trying to high jack your thread.  I'm a newbie and can't imagine this is normal.  Any help would be appreciated.

Double feeds are often caused by an extractor problem where the extractor releases the cartridge rim before the case is completely removed from the chamber.

Remove the extractor, inspect it for chips on the hook, check condition of the spring and o-ring, then reassemble.

I've seen more doulbe feeds that were mag related

I also polished the chamber. Get  a .40 caliber swap and some MILD polish. Run it in with a drill.

DPMS has notoriously tight chambers which is great for accuracy. I wanted my Ap4 to run anything 100% so I don't care about anything over 500 yards.

Thanks for all the advice guys!  I also forgot to mention that some of my brass is is getting creased acrooss the headstamp.  It's bent out toward the bolt face.  What causes this?  Is this an extractor problem?  Aloha.

I'm also following a thread on mag modifactions for the LR 308.  I'm wondering if this is a mag problem?  I notice that when I try to unload a mag that the the cartriges don't strip cleanly and tend to get snaged on the front edge frequently.  I'm not keen on taking a dremel to my new mags.  If this is a mag ploblem shouldn't DPDMS replace the mags?

I got 180 rounds through mine and having the same problems. I am going to give it 400 rounds if the problem persists i am sending it back to DPMS.

Rim pulls are usually caused by too much gas pressure. The extractor is pulling very hard against the rim to attempt to extract a case that is still gripping the chamber. This will cause short stroking, extraction, ejection and feeding problems.

send that rifle back to DPMS.  Mine did the same thing.  Make sure you send in a handful of the damaged brass so they can see what's going on.  If this problem isn't corrected soon, you'll be buying a new extractor when the hook snaps off.  (learn from my experience)

my 16" did the same thing.  I polished the chamber and installed a JP Enterprises adjustable gas block....you can do the same, but it will void the warranty.  Better to just talk to Shane and let them take care of the problem before it becomes a bigger problem.
